Hi
Looking to goto Sorrento in May this year, I have a DJI Spark, is this OK to take and use in this part of ITALY, I may have upgraded to the MAVIC AIR by then, and dont want to get it taken from me.
Do I need insurance cover, or documentation ??
Many thanks
Barry

Posting this just to follow this thread :-)    Sorrento is beautiful.. had one of the best meals of my life there.  I have looked up the drone rules for Italy and they seem to be pretty normal..  There is one strange rule about not flying over beaches in the summer though.

There are several rules to respect in Italy to fly drones:
1)you cannot fly over peoples, houses, streets, trains
2) you must fly at least 70 meters from houses and 150m from peoples
3) you must fly only during daytime (no night flight)
4) you must always flight in VLOS
5) you can fly your drone at no more than 70m high and 200m away from you
6) most important you cannot fly in ATZ, CTR, nor over natural reserves and many other types of prohibited zones

Now, Sorrento and its surroundings are out of any prohibited zones...then you just have to respect the rules I’ve just wrote you about. ;)

Interesting, they are pretty harsh. No more than 200 meters away from you? that one is definitely too little

200 meters away with a spark is pretty darned far... It will be very hard to see at that distance.

Sure do... that is the rule and with sparks propensity for losing GPS and going into ATTI mode it is the only way to make sure that you can get it back.  Do you really want to break the law when flying in a foreign country on vacation?  Getting caught would ruin a very expensive trip.

Visual line of sight.   Don't fly where you can not see the drone with your eyes.

VLOS stands for Visual Line Of Sight, which means you must always be able to see your drone when you fly it.

Be careful: here in Italy fines for not respecting ENAC (Italian civil air space regulator) are quite high, over 2000€.
Your drone can be confiscated and you could even go to jail.

Hi, guys. We would recommend users check the local regulations before fly in the place. And here is the link for your reference, you can check the NFZ and the needed info: https://www.dji.com/flysafe?site=brandsite&from=footer.

Yes, it's the best way to go for sure. They have an English speaking section with all the rules translated.

Nope. DJI NFZ for Italy are way too limited. There are just some ATZ, but not every ATZ in Italy. More over there are missing CTR, Natural reserves and most of the prohibited zones. If you really want to know where you can fly according to ENAC rules you must register to ENAV (ENAC "sister" dealing with aerial space regulations) and then download the Italian restrictions maps. Or, if you just want to make it easier, download with an android phone the app Italian Airspace Lite which is based on those maps. If you use the app remember to select everything but CTR (upper) because this CTR starts usually from 1500ft, then way higher than the maximum height you can fly in Italy.

Thanks for your feedback. I would forward this situation to our designated department for optimization.

Hi, guys. Our Geo Fencing systems are designed to provide some general protection to sensitive locations around the world. We can not match particular regulations required by a certain user. I would recommend you send an email to flysafe@dji.com to get authorization to fly in the location. Thanks for your support.
