"DEER" dronists!
I dedicate this thread to you and the Deer which I have succesfully photographed in two different locations.
Usually deer are scared of people and animals. For my surprise they have been quite curiouse about my Phantom 4 Pro. I managed to take some beautiful pictures in some unique locations. I would like to share a series of photographs taken in the wilderness. Like in all of my posts you'll also find some Tips and Tricks on how to make great shots of wild animals.


First location: MEADOW

TIP: Your first question might be.... where to find deer in the first place. During winter the deer make several trips to the agricultural fields in hope of finding some food. During their search they also relax.

TIP: Never get too close because most probably you'll scare them, they are peaceful beings. Slowly approach  and let them observe your drone this way they get used to the sound of your drone and won't run away if they realise that you face no harm!

In this series top-down shots worked out the best for me, especially because of the shadows.

TRICK: I also made a video which I'm going to edit later on. The Phantom 4 Pro is capable of 4K video recording in 60fps. For the angles you couldn't take you can simply grab a picture from the video and you'll get an 8 megapixel image which is perfect for social media posts for example.

Second location: HILLS near forests

It's the hardest way to spot deer from the distance. Because of the brown color of their fur they blend into the scenery.  My advice is to bring somebody with you to act as a spotter. 4 eyes see more than two ;). Being with a spotter gives you more confidence, knowing that a second person has an eye on your drone. Most probably you'll need to control your drone from a distance ranging from 500m to 1 km since deer would be afraid of you if you would get closer.

Getting the shot: While for the first time deer get curiouse about your drone, later on they'll just continue to do theyr everyday business. This is your time to capture them from the best angle slowly follow them!

Finally shot this pic with the DJI Inspire 1 a year ago, this one is the closest I have ever got to deers.
