Hi,

I’ve been searching around on forums and youtube to find out how far it’s possible to fly Dji Spark using only a phone (no RC) in CE mode?

In FCC then I’ve seen figures around 75-80m, but for CE there’s hardly any remisblr figures. Anyone who knows and have tested?

Cheers

remisblr == reliable (2 min rule stopped me from editing my post, blaming the small virtual keys on the iphone )

Can’t say. It’s not exact science. Phones have different antennas.
What I can say, is how many times transmit FCC power is bigger than CE power:
5.8GHz: 25 times. (27dBm vs 14dBm)
2.4GHz: 5 times. (25dBm vs 18dBm)

4 times the power doubles the distance, so I would guess 2.4GHz in CE mode gives a little less than half the distance of FCC.
Maybe about 30 meters.
(If I did not mix the numbers up)

Hi there, the maximum distance is 100m when connected the mobile only. You can check here: https://www.dji.com/spark/info?site=brandsite&from=landing_page#specs

Susan: Thanks, I have checked the specs but those aren’t always reflecting real world use.

I’m looking for what users have been able to reach reliably only using their phone in CE land.

Heliman: Thanks, I use an iPhone 7, and if 30 m is the limit then that would be a bit disappointing.

If I could get about 60-80 m with only the phone then that would be enough for the task I need it for... So anyone flying in CE mode and getting those ranges with the Spark?

I don't know where did you get the information from.

The fact is:

FCC 2.4 GHZ  = 630 dBm.

CE  2.4 GHZ  = 25 dBm

This means FCC 2.4 is 25 times bigger than CE 2.4 GHZ

I made a search and found the followings:

FCC 2.4 GHZ  = 630 mW.

CE  2.4 GHZ  = 25 mW

So it is mW not dBm.

Sorry!

Copied from the spark manual:
Transmitter Power (EIRP)
2.4 G FCC: 25 dBm; CE: 18 dBm; SRRC: 18 dBm
5.8 G FCC: 27 dBm; CE: 14 dBm; SRRC: 27 dBm

In milliwatt it is:
2.4GHz FCC: 316mW; CE: 63mW
5.8GHz FCC: 501mW; CE: 25mW

5.8GHz CE power is 20 times weaker than FCC power. Not 25 as I first wrote.

You may consider to use an external 2.4/5.8G wifi USB repeater that can be configured as "FCC mode". It may greatly extend the range, e.g. > 200m. I use WavLink USB 2.5g  repeater if I use Android phone only.

In cold weather, I can sit inside  my car and put the repeater on the car roof top and launch the Spark nearby. To achiever longer range, you can use a powerful outdoor 2.4g/5.8g repeater. >1KM is not impossible.

Thats a pretty nifty idea. Didn’t know using repeaters worked with the Spark. Do you use somethink like this? https://www.wavlink.com/en/product/41.html ?

Yes. This is the WAVlink USB 2.4G repeater I have used. I choose FCC mode in the configuration page and plug it into the USB C port of my Huawei P9 Plus via a USB C OTG adapter.

If you are looking for something powerful, you may consider this. Mount it on a tripod and put it on the car roof. Enjoy your flight while seating comfortably inside your car.

Sorry guys,

It is not clear to me how far is possible to fly the spark with only the phone (not RC) in Europe  (CE mode)

Let's say with amps iPhone 6.

I have read before some numbers... dBM, mw, ... but I don't understand!

Yeah, agreed. 30m mentioned pretty early on but that deducted put from theoretical numbers. Some empirical test results would have been nice. Hopefully someone will step forward and share some numbers I hope!
