I didn't know this was possible, Spektrum is not included in the list of compatible Radios?

Supported remote controllers: X9D (FrSky), DEVO 10 (Walkera), T8FG (Futaba), T14SG (Futaba), WTF09sll (WFLY), and AT9S (RadioLink)

I'am using Futaba T10J (which is not on the list of compatible controlllers, too) with Googles RE to controll the Air unit.

Do you think this could be done with X-lite? Has anyone had any problems using unsupported controllers

I have been flying with Spektrum DX8 for more than a year without any issues. The radio works fine with Betaflight controllers because one can use the correct Spektrum chanel mapping (TAER) without re-mapping the chanel order.

X-lite works too but you need to do some soldering. Have a look at the following video:
