Truly absurd. Apart from highly likely static damage while it was butchered, it will overstress the motors, ruin the balance and looks awful, with no increase in flight times me.

He says “increases by up to 15 minutes”.  I get about 12-13 mins, so that’s more than double.  I am skeptical.  But IF it worked and IF you were willing to void warranty (or after 1 year),  then it may be worth it for those with the skills and balls.   Which is probably not me. Lol

I wonder how it would fly with all the added weight in sports mode?

Turns will probably be all over the place and the stopping distance increased.   (And that’s assuming it still remains balanced).   If I had a spare Spark to muck around with, I’d consider trying it, but not with the only Spark I have

It's impressive to see how fast this escalated from electronics to metaphysics, philosophy and religion.

You're getting 15 mins? How? Are you landing with the battery between 0-5%??

It has something to do with flying style.
When I am gliding smoothly and calmly I do get 12 -13 minutes till 20%.
But when I am zipping around aggressively in sports mode, I am happy with 9mins till 20%.

Or straight hovering. That's battery heavy in comparison to normal flight due to the concept of translational lift. Counter intuative I know but hovering drains the battery faster than pretty much anything else.

@KurtVD I consistently get 14 and 15 min flight times, but its misleading because "flight time" isn't the same as "time in the air with the props spinning" but when it's under 10% or so it's right next to me and ready to land, but in some cases at the 14 min mark iv'e still been in the teens.

I've just read it...(btw no, tagging with @ doesn't work). Well, I usually bring it back home and down when it's at 30%, so I get 10-12 mins at best, but that's ok, I can recharge the battery in the car while I fly with the second one, plus I have another drone with two batteries....

His claim that he's able to fly up to 15 mins longer just can't be true, it's probably more like 5 mins more. In the video, it can clearly be seen that the battery he's adding is labelled 850 mAh, and the Spark has a capacity of 1480 mAh. So he's adding less than 60% (57%) to the original capacity, but it's not going directly to the motor, the add-on battery first charges the Spark battery, so I guess there's a little loss there. But let's be optimistic and say that 55% of that gets to the battery, so power-wise, he would get about 7 mins of additional flying time, which would give him 19-20 mins in total, optimistically. However, the added weight will shave off a significant amount of that, so my guess is not more than 17-18 mins, plus he has less agility and precision while manoeuvring.  Definitely not worth it...

We know the 40g prop guards cost 2 minutes of flight time.
I have a 800mAh 3-cell lipo battery (zippy 20C). The weight is 67g. Estimated flight time cost: 3 minutes.
Like most lipo batteries it is 4.2V/cell, while spark batteries are 4.35V/cell, so the external battery will initally drain the spark battery if it was fully charged.
I don’t think numbers add up well.
The extra battery must compensate for the 3 minutes of lost flight time before it is contributing.
And there is a risk of motor cutoff because of overcurrent.

Good point and much to my surprise even documented in Specs:

Max Flight Time        16 minutes (no wind at a consistent 12.4 mph (20 kph))
Max Hovering Time        15 minutes (no wind)

So why would you want to risk ruining or losing your spark and also voiding any warranty that you might possibly have?  Maybe the guy has more money than he knows what to do with.  Just enjoy your spark and fly safe.

Maybe he does have a lot of money, and has every dji drone on the market.   He thinks it’s worth the risk.   I for one like seeing people tinker and push the limits.   It would be boring if no-one ever tried anything different.      We all benefit from their successes and failures.

Look at all the aftermarket stuff there is on the market based on people tinkering.   Legs, LED lights, ND filters, range extenders...etc.  Granted the battery mod is on the extreme side, but same principle

Simple, go to the fight logs and view them.
Btw regarding distance and time, the spark can reach 2 km/ 6561 ft. totally achievable in sport mode, I did it once, but I took photos and panos on the way there so the battery ran out and it took me hours to find out. But  a month later, flyaway occurred.

Btw people , learn about lipo battery's and than see what voltage is on every cell when you land your spark , or in the logs using DJI pantomhelp . DJI is trying to make this idiot proof. When we are told there is 0% battery , actually we have still about 3.50 on every cell . Lipo/Liion have critical voltage 3.0v on a cell .
I know it is better not to be close to 3.0 but that's not even possible with DJI.
Than ask yourself , is it normal to have a for example 3000mah battery in your phone but when it goes 20% shut it off ? Not to mentioning our phones have 20x more or so, charging cycles per lifespan.

Hi,
I thought of raising this subject again here. Sharing a link where you can actually get your DJI SPARK to fly minimum 25 PLUS minutes up to a 5 kilometer (16500 ft.) distance 1 way. tried and tested.

One link is to a power adaptor kit where the trick is simply tapping the power line from the SPARK battery connector port. No internal modification is done. However you need to switch to a non-DJi battery mode for achieving a flight time of 25 PLUS minutes.     You will not be using the OEM battery  but any other Li poly battery starting from 1300mAh  up to 1800mAh ofcourse with 11.2V capacity ( 3S )

http://www.uavmods.co.uk/store/products/144484

Another link is to buy a modified OEM battery and use an external Lipoly battery to ahieve similar results as the first one. Again tried and tested product.

https://fpvcustoms.com/products/ ... udeds-free-shipping

Enjoy !!

why tinker with something that is already good.  You bought your spark knowing you'd get 12-14min flight time so why expect more.  Buy a Cessna if you want more flight time.

Perhaps because if I can get Cessna performance for only a bit more than I've already paid I'd like to do so?

A Mavic 2 is well worth it if you like to fly.  Everything feels 3x if not ^3 smaller due to the flight performance and transmission quality.  The Spark is so damn slow in comparison.  Anything within 300m w/ the Mavic 2 and Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is Zero hiccup.  Even 900-1100m, clear screen.  With the Spark, sometimes I get cut-outs at 100m and it feels scary.
