I cant afford $500 for a new one so thought maybe I could get a used one cheaper.

Does anyone know what model iPad mini is the minimum for this purpose?

I use the iPad mini 2. I have not had a single problem. But the four would be better.

Thank You all if the 2 works fine that's good news.

I have a large iPhone and the RE Goggs are on the way but switching from Goggs to a tablet can be handy sometimes for functions that cannot be selected in the RE Touchpad.

It's important because all Apple products cost 30-40% more in Australia than in the USA.

Why do Apple gouge us this way? Because they can.

I have a dedicated Mini 4 iPad, 128GB that has never failed me. Perfect fit for the controller.

It is powerful enough but the 4 is far more powerful - one is compatible whilst the other is practically optimised. The Mini 4 is often regarded as the best IOS device to use with DJI drones.

I purchased a refurbished mini 4 WiFi  directly from Apple for just over $300.   Full warranty with an older iOS version.   It runs older firmware and “never” needs security updates because it a dedicated flyer, not connected to web.

EDiT:  ## Was just reading MAC 9to5 online.  Their "DEALS" listed -for sale from Best Buy- new Mini iPad 4, WiFi, 128 GB for $299.99.  Even much better than a refurb ( now at Apple Store for $339 ).  Best Buy offers Apple Care for $70, too, in addition to the Apple warranty.  Worth looking into.

Just as 4# mentioned, the iPad Mini 2 or later versions are compatible. It depends on your budget.
