I am going to give my Spark to a family member (got to get him hooked).  When transferring ownership is there any process that I need to go through to deregister with DJI before handing it over?

Virgil, nothing special is needed, please transfer the proof of purchase to the new owner, he can register his own DJI account in DJI Go 4 and then fly the drone.
