Woe's suggestion will work well. If you want a shorter, more robust cable, I also recommend those by Anker (USB to Lightning, available via Amazon). Also good are those with a right angle on the Lightning end, to keep the cable out of harms way as it exits the iPad.

Above is exactly what I use.  Works great.

I used that one as well 1ft. Awesome cable, didn’t want to recommend something that may or may not work for him/her.

I use those https://www.amazon.de/gp/product ... 0?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and am very happy feat exactly - no slag, no problems whatsoever

Actually, there is not the best cable. As long as you use the original data cable of the device, it can work fine.
Please note that if you want to use the USB port at the bottom of the controller, you need to unplug the cable from the left port first.
