I present to you one of the most beautiful inland villages in Spain, Alcalá del Júcar. Alcalá in Arabic means castle. It was built by the Almohads between the 12th and 13th centuries and is located on a rock formed by the sickle of the river Júcar, from where the whole town can be seen.
In the year 1211, a expedition of King Alfonso VIII managed to wrest from the Muslims, for the Crown of Castilla, the strongholds of Garadén, Jorquera and Alcalá, leaving their effective domination guaranteed two years later, when the victory over the Almohads in the Navas de Tolosa (1212) and Alcaraz (1213) break all the Arab defense and leave the repopulation free of all the lands of La Mancha
The houses that you see are actually caves. They are dug in the rock. They are cool in summer and warm in winter (although they do not have much light).
It's a perfect location to shoot Game of Thrones
Where do kids play, I see no back yards or very little green space, parks.
The whole village is a playground where children can play. Cars can not enter the village, there is no fear of being run over by children.
There is a very safe river where they bathe in spring-summer.
Older people have it more complicated because the streets are very inclined.
