The new firmware brings a really cool feature: SmartCapture no longer need controller/phone. Great!!!! —- But would like more info about: There is no home lock, right? It relies only on VPS. Right? What’s the behavior of RTH (battery or something else). Hover? Land on last coordinates? All safety features works on this mode?

The new manual says that in order to enter Smartcapture you need to have access to DJI GO 4 app. This totally contradicts the no phone/controller. So what is it? Do you need the smartphone in order to take off or not?

Just a clarification....For the first time every time you power up your Mavic Air?
I mean can you leave the house without a smartphone or controller and be able to capture some pics and video?

Just the very first time. Never more.

Course lock magically disappeared from the specs after release of the Air.
Not sure why that slipped in and if that is coming back....
I must say I was surprised it was even there in the first place, but if they will implement it, that would be a big bonus!

My understanding is that course lock was never on the specs. Waypoints were dropped after the release.

It was definitely there first. (or Home lock, but I think it was course lock)
100% sure.
That was one of the things I checked because that was one of the main area's where the Pro still has the advantage.
Check this video, he even mentions it

It's implemented and than hidden with one "if" clause in case AC detected is MA.

The 1.2 version of the owner's manual for the Mavic Air these people are talking about is here:

It does mention the following that aircraft firmware v.1.0.2 or higher is required to use SmartCapture without the remote controller or the DJI GO 4 App.


v.1.0.2 is available in the spammy DJI Assistant 2 desktop software but the DJI GO 4 App is not offering it/ seeing it, despite a manual check for update availbility.


NO release notes/ change log are available within DJI Assistant 2 for this update as of this writing.
