Since I haven't noticed any threads about small sturdy and very transportable sling backs for the Mavic Air I want to use this thread to present the one I'm opting for:
https://www.peakdesign.com/product/bags/everyday-sling-5/

its actually more of a camera bag but has a very sturdy build (a friend of mine showed me his bag once and it was real well made) and it is comparably small and "fashionable", and its interior is very flexible in its configuration. Plus in their product pictures they also already propose ways to carry the Mavic Pro and Spark plus accessories in this bag. So I'm pretty positive that the Air and its accessories will fit in there pretty good, even with the DJI hardshell case it is delivered (which I will keep it in for safety reasons).

Looks nice, although the fly more bag also seems pretty decent.

Yes, the fly more bag is also nice but it seems very limited in regard to space. Especially if I want to keep my Air in the hardshell case and take all the accessories of the fly more combo with me

Yes, that is true.
My buying path is usually: use the product first for a couple of weeks / months.
Then decide what else I really need.

Me neither.
But after some purchase that were not needed after all I think this is a better way.

Peak Designs stuff is great. If I didn't already have my EVOC backpack I'd have one of PDs EDC bags.

I bought this one.  Works great for my Mavic Pro, and only $20.

Well, the bag is just fantastic! Everything regarding the drone fits into it, its comfortable to carry and also quite an eyecatcher.

Regarding your use cases:
1. I would not but the drone in this bag without its hardcase because otherwise you risk that propellers are might be bent and become unusable.
2. I have the smaller of the sling bags (5L) and its a perfect fit for the Mavic Air, 3 batteries, the RC and the charging station and cables. But if you want to take a mirrorless (i.e. a system) camera with lenses with you then I recommend the larger version of the bag (i.e. 10L).
If you just want to take a very small compact kamera or a mirrorless camera with a small body and a flat lense then taking out the charging station of the Air and using the space for the camera might also work.

I have this bag in my Peak Design cart.

Could you please do me the favor of placing just the Mavic Air case in the bag along with an extra MA battery and a mirrorless camera with a small lens to see what it would look like?

I don't carry the  controller (I fly from my phone) or the charger.

Thank you.

I have the fly more bag and I really like it. It has a lot of space, and it isn't big or bulky or awkward.

I really like the fly mode bag which came with my kit. The only thing that it lacks is somewhere to (comfortably) put the charging cable and the prop guards.

The charger isn’t a deal breaker for me as you may not take that “out in the field” with you but, as a beginner, not having space for the prop guards is a bit of a downer for me!
