I understand all that. My point is at that speed the app should be indicating that obstacle avoidance is off. It can't work properly at the speed. I watched the other distance attempt video and the same thing happens. It's not a big deal as I would assume that obstacle avoidance was off, but the indicator should be on.
I keep seeing conflicting information about battery and speed. The consensus is that hovering in place actually uses more battery. The conflicting information I have heard has to do with the optimum speed to maximize battery for distance. I have heard that sport mode but not full forward is better if you want to cover more distance.
I think full pitch forward in Sport versus not full pitch in Sport is negligible at best, really makes no difference in my tests. I never fly too low where obstacle avoidance would be an issue, but other people flying may initiate RTH at lower altitudes that could cause the Spark to hover in place instead of RTH.
If that were to happen with loss of WiFi signal when the Spark initiated its RTH, then the Spark realistically would hover there for the remainder until its battery reaches 10%, before it slowly begins landing wherever it's positioned due to critically low battery power.
I think the obstacle avoidance indicator stays on because in the event you lose signal with your Remote, then the speed would be reduced precipitously back to its normal unassisted RTH speed. In which case, obstacle avoidance would be turned on. |
