damn thats a lot of range...why do some people can't get past a few hundred meters?

Since he is flying in 5.8 Ghz it has been switched to FCC mode.

Now that is indeed going some. I think the location you fly and interference is the key factor

Ofcourse it is. Over downtown areas i get around 2,5-3 km max, unless going really high to avoid wifi traffic.

Because they try to get big numbers flying low in wifi congested areas or with blocked LOS.
