I have read so many post that people are having flyaways with their drones over water. My question is why is water such a issue with the drones. I would not think it would be any different than flying anywhere else.I would think a lot of this has to do with pilot error. I personally have not experienced one problem with my MP since I have owned it. Not even a crash with the app.

Especially if flying relatively close to the water surface with obstacle avoidance turned on, the drone can perceive what it "sees", different from reality. It can cause it to suddenly lose height. I've experienced it myself and more tests have been made of the kind you can find on YouTube.

I can see flying close to the water yes. But 50 feet above and higher I would not think that would cause any problems.

Yup, the reflections from the water play havoc on the VPS. It's advice to turn off VPS when flying at low altitude over water. Otherwise you might be going for a swim and it'd pretty cold up here in the North east.

I agree that it's mostly pilot error. I fly over water often and never had an issue, and yes VPS is on.

The reason not to is because the warranty is null/void.  If you can't retrieve it, no warranty.  There are exceptions, but very seldom.  It also says in the manual to not fly over water, so you are going directly against factory recommendations.

This is why I have State Farm insurance. Knock on wood I’ve never had to use it.

I wish we could get this kind of insurance for reasonable money where I live. Liability insurance is relatively cheap, but personal drone insurance is wildly expensive here.
