But for some reason beyond my limited computer knowledge, DJI still hasn't included the USB drivers for the Mavic Air's RC with this new update.

Got my hopes up too, when I spotted the update, but not yet...

Hey Kerry, not trying to start a debate here, but the DJI Assistant2 actually updates the Mavic Pro's remote controller via USB, and that's how I've done it for my last few firmware updates. The Mavic Air's remote controller is supposed to be update-able the same way too. There has been a few threads on this forum regarding the missing USB drivers, and someone  came up with a procedure which involves installing an earlier version of DJI Assistant2 which installs the required USB drivers to the PC.
I was only just pointing out that those USB drivers are still missing from the newest version of DJI Assistant2.

Hmmm.  I just opened my Assistant 2 (on my Mac) and saw nothing about any update.  This happens just about all the time - I see something on this forum about updates, but don't see a notification for many days afterwards.  I think DJI loves California, and lets all you other folks find the bugs for us.
