Need help understanding why my mavic air shows up as "orange34" in the assistant window and not "mavic air" shows the proper firmware version but that name is a mystery. Any thoughts, Don't dare upload firware for the fear it will brick it. My controller shows up as mavic controller then some chineese symbols follow the name. Bought this unit through best buy and it was brand new.

Yes that version is the one I'm using. Strange that it recognizes my quad as something other than Mavic Air.

You're definitely supposed to have it recognised as a Mavic Air - I can't even guess what "orange34" is. You could always try to swap it with another. I understand best Buy are OK for that...
