Am I just being dense, or is the USB adaptor that came with my Air the wrong one? The charging port for remote control is strictly rectangular, but the adaptor goes from USB C to mini usb. The "trapezoid" shaped mini usb.
I'm not sure if I'm not explaining clearly. The USB adaptor does not fit the RC port on the side. 2 different shapes entirely, and I don't think I can or should force the connection.
The port on the left side of the RC is a standard micro-USB, no matter what it looks like. The DJI connector is square, the micro USB standard plug fits fine despite being D shaped.
Put another way, the square DJI connector is the same pinout and spacing, and the lower half of the connector is the same size as a micro USB. The top half is larger than the D-shaped micro USB, and so accepts a micro USB without adaptor, etc.
They say there are only 2 ways to plug in a USB, but it always takes 3 tries. For me, apparently I need 17 tries. It is plugged in a charging. Thank you for your patience.

DJI Lettering facing up. That's the only way I can tell the difference. Wish they had ditched micro usb and just done USB C everywhere.
For some reason, DJI uses a square Micro-USB socket. The trick is to look at the spacing. The "flat" side of a standard micro-USB connector is flush up against the edge while the "D" side has a thin plastic spacer. If you look at the photos above you can see the different spacing and that's how you can figure out which end is up.
That being said, I put the supplied cable and adapter back in the box and have a dedicated Micro-USB cable for charging the controller and a standard USB-C to USB-C cable for accessing the internal storage with my MacBook. I marked the correct side of the Micro-USB with a little white-out and always know which end is up.
