Hi i just got the mavic air yesterday, and before i could fly i had to update the firmware, but then i noticed that the downwards IR "leds" were working "abnormally" well at least this is what i think only one side is on and the other is off, i dont know if this is how it should be thats why i came to ask you, judst look to the  picture for your reference.

i tryied to fly and everything was fine, no abonormal behavior or sensor failure notification but i want to be sure

thank you all of you

Hi, there. Please do not feel worry about it. It should be one led on and one is off. Thanks for your attention.

To provide stability in hover by ‘seeing’ the ground without a GPS connection. They only work in brighter light conditions and lower altitudes (up to around 10m). It’s a downward vision positioning system. No idea why only one comes on.

Looks like one is transmitting the beam and the other is the receiver.

It is ultrasonic sensor to detect the land. Please inform us if you still have doubt.

Should you be able to see the light from the sensor as I've never seen any light from either one...?

Some camera system can "see" infrared light (some more sensitive than others). Our eyes, however, will perceive it as a dim red light.

The infrared TOF sensor on the Air and the Spark uses a separate transmitter and a receiver. One pulses infrared light while the other captured those pulses. Hence only one of them will emit infrared light as shown above.

Now that explains it - thanks DJT MVSP. I knew they were not ultra sonic sensors but rather IR only as totally different to my MPP and P4P but wasn’t sure why only one of the IR sensors is lit in the OP’s post. Now I know

The same reason that you can take the camera on your Cell phone, point your remote control for your tv at the remote and see the flash of IR light from the remote.  Great way to test your TV remote to see if it's working.
