Wasn't not too cold?  I get frozen fingers after a few minutes at -15 degrees C. !!!

All three. But actual flight time was more in the 3x15 minutes as I landed early and gave each a warmup period as well.

Lovely footage! Since I would also like to bring my MP on a forthcoming Austria trip,  I was wondering whether you got the "Bewilligung" from Austro Control and how much you paid for it? I read that flying without one can result in ridiculous fines, so I don’t want to take that risk…

How were your hands?

Couple of answers:

• Yes I do have a permit, but for the Inspire 1. It costs 300EUR for the first year and takes about a month to be processed.
• The kind of restrictions they put on you are "interesting". You are not allowed to fly near people and not on sundays, because then you might disturb the not-present people.
• You still need to get the okay from the premise owner - which either you don't know whom to contact or you simply don't get. Why would they?
• Be empathic and you will spark interest, not contempt.
• You need insurance covering for your own protection. Make sure it covers drone usage as well. Doublecheck that. Triplecheck it.
• In Austria the 79Joule rule applies, not 250g.
  

And that is the ruleset I fly the Mavic Air under: Not very fast and less than 30m above ground, hence the 400g do not exceed the 79J.

Remember:
E = m*g*h = 0.430 * 9,81 * h = 79J ---> h = 18.7m
E = m*v²/2 = 0.430 * v² / 2 = 79J ---> v = 19m/s = 70km/h, its max speed in sport mode

To be fair you need to add up the two numbers, so you can either be at 18m with zero speed or 0m and full speed. But not even the government web page does that. (see diagrams to the right on this page: https://www.bmvit.gv.at/verkehr/luftfahrt/drohnen/kategorien.html) And second this assumes that the Mavic falls like a stone with zero air resistance - free fall in vacuum. Props and body have quite some air resistance though.

For the Mavic Pro the numbers cut deeper into your flight envelope.



Regarding hands: Cold, very cold. I bought touchscreen gloves but they are clumsy plus the RC arms for the phone are large as well, no chance to tap on buttons at corners. If somebody would have a link to better gloves, I would appreciate the hint.
