I'm surprised that more people are not using drones to create time lapse videos.  with a 10 minute flight time, knowing what you're going to capture before taking off is crucial, but I think the Spark does a great job.  I hope you like!

1. capture video
2. import to video editing software
3. speed up video
4. export video
5. upload to youtube
6. eat a sandwich

step number 6 is optional, of course, but I find it helps.

So you're really not doing a time lapse in the classic sense of taking a photo every 2-4 seconds.

ah no I am not doing that, but you can do that too.  When you turn on the delay to take a photo, it takes one every 'that many' seconds.  IE, if you set a delay timer for 5 seconds, it will just pop off a photo every 5 seconds.  It's great for taking family portraits with kids (I've used it for this) or time lapse with photos as well (haven't done that)

I haven't tried it either...I thought the delay would just take one photo in the set time...nice to know it just keeps repeating shots.

it's advisable to use the Manual settings when timelapsing. it adds consistency and using a longer shutter speed brings that "trail" effect.

Agreed.  In fact, you almost HAVE to use manual or lock the exposure.  If you do not do this, any changes made in the exposure over time will be very apparent and exaggerated due to speeding up the footage.

In a sunset/rise shot, you should be able to get a sufficiently low shutter speed to get the trail effect you're speaking of.  In bright daylight like my shots, it's a little tougher...  This is actually where shooting video instead of stills makes the situation a  bit better.

funny, what kind of sandwich?

Have you tried taking pictures instead of video and setting to a pic every 1, 3 seconds.  then importing all pictures and speeding up the images into a video?

Ham and Swiss, obviously!

I've done that with other means (go pro, DSLR, etc), but not yet with the spark.  I have used the Spark's ability to capture a photo every X seconds for family shots though.  It worked great!
