Yep. The bad thing with the Drain Pipe guy is that he insisted on saying that it was interesting and unique footage. He said that people should shoot Drain Pipes instead of Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls...

Unfortunately, you cannot make good shots of those beautiful places because its not allowed.

Since everybody knows this is a system that you can easily exploit the number of points you have is meaningless.

I learned a very valuable lesson today.  Someone posted a video and I offered a suggestion for improvement.  Man, did I get trashed by him, and a couple of others then joined him.  From now on, absolutely no suggestions for improvement unless the poster specifically asks for it.  Unfortunately, in cases where I see a problem on a video that does NOT ask for suggestions to improve, I'll simply say, "Nice video".

^ That's a real shame - i'd personally always be happy for constructive criticism, tips to improve my work, even if i didn't specifically ask for it. So if you ever see any of my creative output, do feel free to offer advice; as a newbie, i'm always open to hearing it. I mean, as long as it's constructive - "Rubbish video mate!" would probably really bum me out, lol.

lol 2 points per comment, that's a lot of time being spent on here to get a few cents when 180 points is only 1 credit.

I have no idea what I'm doing when I make video. If you see me doing something stupid, let me know. I welcome an objective opinion. It's how we learn.

When I post 'Nice video' or 'Interesting' - I do it because I think it's a nice video or interesting. My Mamma taught me if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything, so if it's a crappy video, I do not comment. As for the drain pipe video, it might be interesting if you're planning to start a drain pipe inspection business - folks have done weirder things

I agree, thanks Jeff.  I'm happy to get suggestions from others, and as I told the fellow who took such offense, instead of looking at it as criticism, look at it as a gift - which you're free to use  or toss.  He didn't see it that way.

I love Trash Cans! And all other unusual objects that else we can possibly get in front of our cameras. The more variety the better! I love to see beaches and mountains etc. but something different in between certainly does well too. :-)

How does the point system even work?  How do you know what the next level is or how far away you are from it?  I've looked but can seem to find it.

Here we go: https://forum.dji.com/thread-71515-1-1.html. And if you look at your profile, you will find that despite an impressive flight distance accrued, you can definitely not be accused to be a "point hunter" ;-)

I find it funny that we have 70 posts about this topic, but if someone posts an OK drone video it might get 5-10 responses. This post could be considered part of the problem that it is trying to discuss.

It is the thread at the top of this forum about the forum rules. It contains a chapter about the point system (how many you get for what) and how many are required for each grade. You are only 347 points away from becoming Second Officer.

You definitely do not need to spam for achieving that. You certainly have nice footage to share and with your impressive flight experience you are perfectly placed to assist new users who have questions or problems. I for example would be happy to learn from your experience.

Thank you, I was joking about spamming.  I have almost a year of flying.  I have gotten a bit better at editing.  I'm going to piece together my footage from Miami, The Florida Keys, South Carolina, Maine and Oregon to make a "best of" video.  Editing was very difficult with my old, slow laptop.  Now that I have a faster laptop and better editing software, I'm excited to see what I can produce.  Most of my videos I just dumped on Facebook.  I only have 3 on my Youtube channel.  I'm bored with flying around my house.  I need to get out some more.  I plan on sharing more soon.

Fly it until the last piece stops moving!

Great, I look forward to watching it! I had the same computer problem and still a lot of footage unprocessed on stock. End of last week I got my new one and now editing will be more fun again.

I think that the points system could (and does) get taken advantage of but not to the degree it would become a real issue.

I believe that the pros outweigh the cons. It is a good way of keeping the community alive. I'm not convinced people would post as many photos and videos, or engage in discussions as much if it weren't in place.
