I can mount the iPad horizontally, but I need to be able to mount it vertically (the autopilot app is better when using the ipad vertically.)

Anyone know where I could find an extender that will work?

Everything I find online is for mounting the iPad horizointally .

Just a thought, you could use the Mav Mount into the DJI device holder and spin Mav Mount for iPad clamp. They have great quality products.
I have one of these and tested it on my DJI remote Inspire 1. So this will change the balance of the remote... but I know that it can work.

there is an extention I got on ebay that might just make it, I will try at home tonight and let you know. It's "s" shaped and extends about 2"
