Aloha Francois,

Wow!  That is one beautiful place you live in and you seem to have only touched the surface.  Beautiful job and the music and editing complemented the video very well.  Such diversity of subject matter, amazing.  And you made it work so well.

I must say that it was much nicer to see the whaling ship beached than a whale or dolphin!  That one dolphin in the first surf shot must have had something on its fluke.  That was the weirdest tail flap I have ever seen.  If that was me at my age, I would have broke something!  They looked like Tursiops truncatus.  When I saw the weird tail artistry, my first thought was that they might be Stenella but that is only because they do stuff like that with their whole body!  Nice shots, they must be regular visitors.

The scale of some of your shots was eye-opening.  Some would look like a close up and then you would see a very small SUV moving to set your scale.  Quite a strange effect.  How many miles of coast did your videos cover.  It looked like there was a seriously sandy desert and then there was a lush tropical coastal zone.  One beach area looked like it was manicured with an excavator, a big one.  What a place!

So were you down by the Orange River?  The topography did not look like anything in your video.  But then, that could be Google Earth.

Aloha and Drone On!

Thanks ghutch, you know the rigs were 4.9 km from the coastline. There was not much time for filming, have to come back, but next time I will fly out in sports mode to have more shooting time at the rigs. I cant fly full speed because the Drone starts to wobble.

That's very very kind of you.  Thank you.  At this point, we know we'll be heading to South Africa, but unsure of exactly where yet.  This is the #1 thing on my wife's bucket list, so I'm letting her make all the decision on this one.  Then, I'll have to find out if there's any regulations that would make me leave my drone at home.    Either way, the Osmo Mobile is coming.

Thanks Cetacean, you do know Dolphins for sure because of your work. They are regular visitors.
It was about 3-4 miles of coast that was covered I would say. I think the beach that you talked about "a manicure" is where the 4x4 vehicles are driving on the Dunes.
This videos was shut at Mossel Bay and Dana Bay, South Africa and at Swakopmund and Henties Bay in Namibia.

Greetings.

Aloha Francois,

Those Bay names are familiar because after your video, I Google Earthed the entire West Coast of Namibia and some of South Africa.  Now I will look specifically at the Bays you mentioned.  I want to find the beached whaling ship and the oil platforms.

Mahalo for your videos.  Very nice and the dolphins are frosting on the cake.

Aloha Cetacean,
indeed a very nice video about wonderful places.
The shipwreck is one of the best (still) conserved on the Skeleton coast, many have almost disappeared because of the salt corrosion.
It is called Zeila, perhaps the most iconic of Skeleton Coast's shipwrecks, it was not a whaler but a fishing trawler, more info about it here: Shipwrecks on Skeleton Coast
And its position here https://www.google.es/maps/place ... !4d14.3537007?hl=ro

As for the oilplatform, I'd bet is close to a place called Langstrand, between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, Francois will correct me if I'm wrong. I was told there are many coming from Angola, where the oilfields are, to Walvis Bay for repair and maintenance.

Wonderful video F.KOK, you made our hearts bleeding when remember these places we visited in your amazing country. Thanks for sharing. The road must be C34, the only one salt paved road in the world, bordering the Skeleton coast I assume. Hope and wish to see more of your videos...at least until we'll be able to come back

Aloha matjan,

Mahalo for the correction and also the link for shipwrecks.  You must excuse me for the mistake, after all it is almost unrecognizable even though it appears so modern.

Since you know about the Skeleton Coast, I found Skeleton Bay but I am really looking for the surfing spot with the waves and barrels that last forever.  Any ideas where that is?  The west coast of Namibia really does get some serious and BIG waves.  What a Surfer's Paradise!

     Mahalo again!

Aloha and Drone On!

Aloha matjan,

I found the oil platform.  It was right off the spit of Walvis Bay.  I remember Langstrand because of the swimming attraction there called Dolphin Park.  Sure is an interesting area.

Do you remember a coastal area known for stripping ships for steel and other metals?  At first I thought it might be in Namibia but it was not on the West Coast at all.

Aloha cetacean,

I don't know any place in Namibia where stripping ships from steel. This does not mean there is any, but, sorry I don't have the answer for your question. What I can say, Walvis Bay is full of floating ship"wrecks" as being the way to keep the fishing licence of the old ship while using offshore a newer one (with the former's licence)...

The Walvis Bay Lagoon being famous for its oysters, they even converted some floating wrecks in oyster farms...
