I think about 6200 ft is the furthest I have gone out before losing video signal

Furthest l sent mine out was 12,000 feet (3.6 km). lt didn't lose any bars so could have gone further, no signal loss or lag at all. lt was flying against the wind but as soon as it hit 50% battery l brought it home anyway, just in case.
Don't judge the camera settings :p

So today I finally beat my last distance record.  My first record was around 6200 ft.  Today off my parents back porch and in the most open direction I could find I went about 10,700ft!  so a little over two miles.  It felt so nice to finally have that feeling that I beat two miles.  Of course this was over a small amount of a city and some farmland so there were plenty of power lines underneath to cause some signal interference at about that point.  Still had strong RC connection though but I did not want to lose video signal so I hit the return to home.  On that note.  Is it bad to just use RTH as a feature.  Some people only hit it when they need it.  I usually hit it every time I go out a distance and just let the RTH fly it back for me for a nice steady recording.  The RTH height is set to about 380ft.

Here is a AirShou screen capture of a 5000m flight. It has been edited for time. Note that when the Phantom reaches over 5000m the RTH point is well behind the the battery's remain capacity. This required returning in Sport mode. The craft did make it back but did not catch up to the RTH point until about 500m from the HP.

Excellent contribution to this thread except for the fact that these things are made for long distance. Read through the forums and you will see that distance from home point has no relation to lost drones. A fall from 100' is the same if I'm 50' or 5000' from home point.

The first video isn't a phantom 3. It doesn't even fly smooth like a 3 and there's no rev start up like the P3 .

P3A stock went out 8,321 feet yesterday and still had perfect video and full bars but had to return against the wind so decided to turn around. Was out in the country no houses and launched from a high hill top so had clear LOS with no obstacles.

Distance

11,300 Feet and I still had full bars and no lag.  This is with a stock P3 Advanced with all the latest firmware and updates.
I could have went much farther,  However  I feel  that that over 2 miles is more then enough....
In the areas I fly both my inspire and P3 have no trouble getting well over the 2 mile mark.  Other then the geofence scare ....I  Think DJI builds a rock solid bird.

I can 1.3km with P3A, all in stock. No mod.

2,8 km over water, then I lost video feed and returned home

I have a P3A and I could get around 2 miles with the windsurfer boosters. They work great, but I have an area where I couldn't get to unless I could travel a little farther, so I tried the Artek Blue-Proton antenna boosters. About $60 and yes you have to take the controller apart, but honestly no big deal just as long as you take your time. Took probably 20-30 minutes. No issues at all. WOW, these things are amazing. I have been 15,000 ft. with strong signal both video & controller. That's far enough for me and I took my pics and traveled back home with 30% power left. Wouldn't think you could go a whole lot farther without chance of running out of power. I flew same path as with the windsurfers, and have travelled this route now several times with same results, windsurfers  can't get me that far. The Artek gives better all around signal wherever I go over the stock or windsurfer ones. I like the fact I don't have to take anything off of the stock antennas....I just fold them down and they fit in my case perfectly. I did also do the channel hack, not sure if that really helped but I stay on channel 22 and don't have any problems. Of course like all of you mention, this route I am talking about is over the water, free of any obstructions, etc. I can't do that over the city, but 2-miles is not a problem.

I've got a P3 Pro furthest I've flown is 6KM! 12326.6 meters return trip.
Its totally standard apart from DJI carbon blades.

Never been further than 1,500 FEET.    But 1,500 feet was easy and I'm sure it would easily have gone further.
But about 1,500feet  is as far as I can go and still make out the Phantom visually.....and I follow the FAA guidelines / regs.

Why? RTH works well, as long as you set it up right and plan your flight well. Also, keep an eye on the battery %...

I did not go all the way to signal loss... but signal was spotty a bit.. There is an airport in that direction, and also.. I never went that far, so I was a bit.. stressed ;) Waiting for it to comeback was quite unnerving.
I had some youngsters watch me fly, they were very excited to watch the tablet, once I put the radio on the ground, and we let the drone return home pretty much the whole 7000ft to autolanding! Kids are so amazed by this technology.. sort of as I am ;)

My limit without mods is:
6977 M, 22,890ft, 4.3 miles

With inexpensive parabolic antenna signal extenders, I made it to:
7128 M, 23,285 ft, 4.4 miles

Why isn't the distance with the signal extenders longer? I chickened out because the battery indicator told me to return to home. Next time, I take better note of the headwinds and tailwinds.

In fact, both of those distances could have been larger, as with each I returned with plenty of battery power left.

I have a P3P. My longest distance is 4000 meters. I probably could have gone a bit farther but I did not want to push it. Returned with 25% on the battery. Total distance flown was 8978 meters.

I was using a windsurfer antenna booster. I have not been able to repeat the distance yet. I think it had to do with the route used.

I am wondering about these flat panel mods. My experience with wifi drones is that the flat panel is good for areas that do not have dense trees and hills. Flat panel signals do not have any curve.

With my wifi drones I first tried a panel antenna and it was useless unless I started off from a large open field. After some reading I tried a 5 twist helical antenna that improved things somewhat. I then tried a 3 1/2 twist helical and that helped a great deal.

I flew my phantom 3 over 9 miles, I was follow it on my Polaris ranger.

I can fly more than 4500 meters stock, thats 9km in mileage.... p3p
