I recently bought the new Mavic Air and though the aircraft flys without issue, it won’t allow me to use micro SD cards. I’ve tried several, exp(sandisk extreme plus 64gb, and sandisk extreme 32gb) neither of them were even detected by the drone. I am able to use the 8gb internal storage, but when I try to switch it from internal storage to the SD cards, it just says “No SD card”. And because of it not detecting the cards I’m also not able to format them either.

Are you sure the SD card is well in place (locked)? Try to push it in with e.g. a pen.

And have you tested the SD card on another device, does it work there?

I would try a reformat on a PC or MAC and try again.  Failing that a firmware refresh using DJI assistant to be sure it wasn't a firmware upgrade glitch. The latest firmware update included a default to SD storage when a SD card is fitted. Hope this helps.

Very good suggestion!

Please try to change a SD card and see if it works. If your mavic air still not recognize the SD card, please contact our support and start a case: http://www.dji.com/support

I want to say thank you to everyone who commented trying to help! It ended up being defective sd cards.. just my luck I had to go through 3 cards to finally realize it wasn’t a problem with the drone!

Try the following: install and format the SD card on some smartphone. Mavic Air will probably recognize you now. It happened to me exactly the same.

I placed my sd card in my GoPro. It read as sd error. I then formatted it from the GoPro settings and was repaired.

Problem solved: I reformatted on my Mac.. didn’t work but when I put my sd card in my canon dslr, formatted, and took a few pics and then reinserted it into my mavic the card was recognized. Then I was able to reformat again

I would like to add that anytime you connect the sdcard into the host, mac, win10, cellphone os, the os will lay its signature files into the card.
You see these, some invisible.
My mavic air runs old versions altogether.
Once the soldered reposit of 8gb saturates, auto handover into sdcard covers recording the continuing mp4 file.
But at times, inconsistently, the changeover to write sdcard continuation "hiccups" corrupting the file splitting.
How to remedy?
Do not take out the card and instead treat the whole drone as the card.
You can port out the drone's mp4 cabled direct into host, hub too, if routing into external reposit say ssd.
It burns battery energizing the drone but those "hiccups" no longer experienced (usually while in flight the notification is popped up switching repository because fullhouse)

I had this issue with my new Air 3, no matter how I formatted on Windows it wouldn't recognize the card. Once I formatted on my Linux PC (and created new GPT partition table, not sure if that helped or not) it was recognized just fine.

Why is DJI firmware ignoring cards formatted on Windows? No idea.

Hi! What if you format the card in the drone?

You need to format the card in a computer and then copy a picture from the computer to the card.  If you do this, your drone should recognize the card when it is inserted properly.  On my mavic, air, I had to insert the card upside down.
