Can't say this is a much cheaper alternative to an external monitor but can be quite usefull. I hooked up my crystalsky's HDMI OUT to my Alienware's HDMI IN. I think I could  probably use this kind of setup if client wants to see it in a bigger monitor instead of looking over my shoulder.

Yeah, kinda agree there.
Since battery life on gaming laptops are well known to not last that long.

At least I finally found a use for the HDMI IN on that Alienware laptop, IF and only IF I ever needed IT.
But hey to each his own right? The weight never really bothered me though. But like you said before, it's not really that practical on the field.
