Hello,

I just tried out D-log with my phantom 4 pro, but i experienced a lot of noise, especially in the grass.(see attached video)
I filmed at 4k 24 fps 50 shutter in pal with -1 all over the board. I used the histogram to check the exposure and tried to hold the histogram mountain in the middle.
Is this because the 500 ISO or is it because of my settings? Or should I just use cinelike as I used before but would like to get a bit more dynamic range in my video's.

Thanks

I've always read that the lower the ISO the better. Should usually set it to 100. You'll have to figure out what f-stop to set and what ND filters to use to get the right exposure given that you are shooting 50 fps. 50 fps is what you want too.

The ISO at d log is locked at 500 ISO.
I shoot at 24 fps and not 50 to get more information per frame.

When shooting d-log, you want to ETTR a smidge. Once you apply a contrast curve to the footage, the shadow noise will disappear.

How do you apply it and what is it?

You have discovered what some of us have discovered already: Grass and trees look mushy with d-log. I have read that you may improve the quality by moving the histogram mountain to the right. Otherwise, just use d-cinelike.

Hello,
Thanks for your reaction.
How much should I ETTR? I use a histogram, as the E.V. Is not working great. Don't I Lose detail if I overexpose?

ETTR as far as you can without overexposure. Make sure zebra's are on. After that, experiment with sharpness/color/contrast settings. To add contrast back in, you can use any video editing app. Davinci Resolve is a great free one.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I'll try to expose as much without getting zebra's on on the ground.
