I am torn between buying a GoProfession P3 Case for $250

Anyone know if the new DJI hardcase backpack will work as a carry-on /hand-luggage on flights?

If not, any suggestions?

I'd be concerned checking the Phantom for flights when you see how the handle luggage.

Please share your opinions or even better; experiences.

I don't check them as baggage (not safe or legal, IMHO) - but I just used the Thinktank Helipak for hauling my Phantom 2V+ to florida and back - a total of three flights. Had it stuffed with a macbook air and a lot of other stuff also. The P3 fits perfectly and it is very comfortable on my back or hand held.

Not the cheapest  - but seems of good quality.

Have used TT gear for years. It is simply the best. Just got a Helipak for my P3P and it not only fits, but fits well. Will post images soon.

I'm wondering what the weight of the backpack will be.  The hardshell is unbelievably heavy.  I sent them an email... But have not heard back.

The carry case is... I'm not sure about the backpack.  The specs aren't listed and I still haven't heard from them.

As a ride a motorcycle the backpack is the only way for me to go.  My favourite in the list supplied by mike (PhantomHelp) was:

Microraptor Pro Backpack

Its large enough to keep the props on too.  Nice.

Here's the $149 backpack I use for my P2V+ AND my P3.  (Edit: Just noticed it's the same as Stac57 mentioned, but hopefully my modification info is helpful.)

Amazon order page - $149 with Prime

This backpack is soft, has a waist strap for comfort on a longer hike, and it has tons of pockets for other stuff like bottled water, even though it's small.  Protects everything great.  I've added photos of a SLIGHT modification I made so it holds either P2V+ or P3.

I ordered the LowePro Drone Guard kit. I loe their products and it looks like a great solution for transporting the P3 in the back of your car.

I got a TT Helipak for mine, but I've used hardcases for other quads.  The TT has tons of space, fits my P3 nicely and is light weight compared to the hardcases like GoProfessional.  Very happy with the TT Helipak so far.

thinking of ordering this backpack but have a question. How do all of you support the camera/gimbal when being carried vertically like this? The gimbal seems fragile and these bags have no support for it?

if you just look at the cut out for the phantom, and know the length of the blades, it seems clear the props wont fit while on. It would be nice to know what people are doing for gimbal support though.

I just got the cheap one from eBay.  Foam padding from all sides. I'm sure it will work fine when I actually have my P3P.  Being cheap I can modify the foam to fit the larger landing gear and also the remote.

Today I can see that its located under Store/phantom accessories. Not sure if they released the order page yesterday or if it have been up longer. Anyone seen it earlier then yesterday?

Looks like the camera will slot in to the centre  foam to hold it in place. Bummer that such a nice looking case doesn't allow for props.... Owell  it's not like putting together an inspire, I could handle chucking on the blades.
I wonder if the iPad Air will fit in.

I was about to say: "I do the same as DJI does when the ship it... I just add the gimbal clamp."

But I realize that's not exactly true.  Unlike the P2, DJI added an extra foam piece at the back of the gimbal as packing material.  And unlike the P2V+, the P3 gimbal clamp falls off much more easily.

So, although I doubt many people are doing anything other than the gimbal clamp to protect the gimbal for transport, maybe they should.  A case which further protects the gimbal might be a good idea.  You've prompted me to look into possibly adding foam pieces for that purpose.

I contacted the company that makes this case requesting specs such as weight - I received a response after 5 days stating this information is not available.  Really?  I'm not buying a product when the company doesn't even know the specs of it's own product.

I just put the gimbal clamp on to see how it would work. It feels snug like you say, yet the entire gimbal assembly still sags and would bounce in a vertical transport scenario.

really what seems to be the answer would be a lens cover/gimbal lock combo like they sell for the vision 2 plus.
