Has your drone ever been chased by a seagull? I can tell you, these birds are pretty fast! I wasn't flying with my Spark, but with a drone that's about 10mph faster (top speed), and the seagull had no problems following it back and forth, angrily screaming at it. However, they don't seem to be able to go up in altitude as fast as a drone, or not as straight up  (I guess they climb in circles). As soon as I started to climb, it simply let go or lost interest. I wish I had had a rear-facing camera...

It seems that climbing straight up is the easiest way to make them either go away or lose interest. I'm surprised that they were harassing your Spark though. I find them to be more interested (or annoyed / threatened) by bigger drones.

Ive had a couple of Seagull encounters now, had a large seagull trying to catch the spark last weekend.

Just kept Turing the drone as it got close and it couldn't catch it until I got the drone back to me.

Then I always chase after the bird to scare it away and it seems to always work, almost like a power dominance thing

My thought, too. ;-)
But then another thought, it is  perhaps a FPV google flyer, not a LOS one?

No, I was flying VLOS, and it was quite a spectacle, actually. An FPV flyer wouldn't even have noticed it, since the bird was behind the drone all the time.

Interesting...as I've mentioned, I wasn't flying with my Spark, but with another, slightly larger drone, that has a considerably higher top speed (about 10mph more), and the bird had no problems following it. So I guess it could have caught the Spark easily, but it didn't want to, they probably just want to chase it away.

True...the Spark was in its bag, I was out flying with my other, slightly larger drone (check my avatar). The best part about it were the angry screams, I really wish I could have recorded these ;)

Well, I've been back there a few times, and I've tried that. Here's the best I got (those are stills from a video)

The quality is quite amazing, considering that these are stills taken from a video, shot at 15-20 mph (I wasn't at full speed, but just making a turn, that's why it's disappearing on the right in one of the pictures)

If you're on a Mac, you can simply do it in Photos. The frame will be in your 'Pictures' folder, not in the Photos applications. (for Windows, I don't know) :

Ive been really lucky; it’s only a few seconds of footage, but they are the best pictures I’ve taken so far with my Spark.

I really like these pictures, I wonder how many close-up videos of flying birds have ever been shot? From the front? Before drones existed, this could only be done from a helicopter, with a powerful zoom lens. I have a few seconds of film with the bird in the center, I guess I should try and see if I can edit it into something cool.

Since these encounters, I regularly train myself flying backwards. In case I have another bird chasing my drone, I’ll be ready flying backwards smoothly and fast, and filming it ;)
