Last few times I have the P4 out it seemed a little unstable while hovering. it moves around side to side as if it is in high winds. Only a few feet side to side but enough to make me nervous. Same when it comes in for a landing. Not smooth and steady like my P3P. I'm thinking its probably time to recalibrate everything. Also I have not updated to the latest firmware. I will probably go ahead and update soon unless there is some reason why I shouldnt.
Any thoughts?

Yes you could re-calibrate. You don't happen to be in ATTI mode are you?

I think its down to the downward sensors, (if it has them). If it does have them then the landing part is not an issue, you can come in fast and hard and it will slow right near the ground and land without issue. As for hovering, take it up 11m and see what its like then ;)

Just looked, it does have VPS, being just a few feet above the ground it is trying to get a position from and very small area anf that area is perhaps grass, concrete, tarmac etc, therefore very little pattern for the vps to work with, if it was a patterned carpet for example it would hover more stabley (is that a word????)

Yes it does have the downward sensors and yes it is over concrete. I know it happens at about 10 feet or maybe even a little higher. I'll try letting it hover higher and see what it does next time I get out.

Once out of the vps range 10m it will be a lot steadier or over a more defined pattern such as a dried patch of grass where a dog wee'd or a landing mat or, you get the idea

You could also try turning the VPS off and if that makes it more stable you have your answer , as for updates the choice is yours? the latest seems to work well for most and you can always downgrade if you get problems

I did the latest firmware update. Seems better. Also figured out how to use sport and A mode. She really likes to drift around in A mode. I'm guessing thats because the GPS mode is off. Top speed in sport is 39 top in A is 44

Have you calibrated the RC sticks?  Every time I update GO the sticks need a calibration as they are ultra sensitive without doing it.  I barely touch them (uncalibrated) and they'll shoot to 100% otherwise.

Have you also tried to calibrate the IMU and RC? Please check if there is a need to change the propellers.
It is right that the drone will not hover in place in ATTI mode. As for the flight speed in A mode, it varies from the environment (wind speed etc.). Be cautious when flying in ATTI and Sport mode. fm.png
