Did a quick 30sec reel of filming sunset last night on a single battery (because like most of you I can only get my hands on 1 battery )

Quality is much improved over P2V+ especially at low light.

Cheers

That will most probably be due to the video being recorded at 4K and downscaled to 1080p.  This will always look better than recorded straight to 1080p.  Some people can't notice it, whereas I definitely can in most instances.

Hi Jim,

Yes, Newport Beach (Corona Del Mar), very impressed w this little camera, vast improvement over P2V+ for sure. I would like to see some of your footage at 1080p to see how it compares.

A lot of people don't realize this (recording in 4K and then using editor program to downscale to 1080p) that it can actually make the video look much better.  I recently bought a 4K semi pro video camera for the exact reason, as I don't have a 4K TV or computer monitor yet.  There are SO many YouTube videos (even ignoring YouTube's horrible compression) showing just how much better it can be.  You also have the freedom of "zooming" into the 4K video as well without losing resolution.  But it's an individual thing too, and what the target audience of the videos are.

What kind of post-processing software permits you to "zoom in" on the 4k video?
I'm a newbie to the world of videography. I initially figured if I can't view it in 4k
why would I bother to shoot anything in that mode. Obviously, I was totally wrong!

@aburkefl - personally I used Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to do all my video editing (PC) which I know allows you to zoom in on video.  I haven't done any of this on my 4K videos yet as I'm pretty much still a novice myself when it comes to this sort of thing.  I'm sure if you have a Mac you could use Final Cut Pro to do the same thing (or Premiere of course), but not sure about any "free" video editing software out there, as I don't use them (like Movie Maker, etc.)

The only downside with 4K videos and editing, is you need a fairly grunty machine and fast HDDs (ie. SSDs) otherwise it makes it hard and SLOW to process them.

Own an iPAD and an iPOD (still love my iPOD) but never owned a MAC. If I were a bigger media-type guy, I probably would have owned one years ago.

You can "zoom and pan" (sort of!) with the GoPro Studio, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Also, if you shoot some fast frames (llike 720p at 120 fps) so you can generate some incredible slo-mo, you'll need a super fast machine to process it as well. If you want to see something incredibly slow, use GoPro Studio, institute some slo-mo and let the Studio use flux - you'll be convinced your machine died!

I guess if I ever want to be serious (at 70 already, it isn't too likely!) I'll have to have some more powerful software to process video.

Great 30 seconds!

Sheesh, all I've got for aquatic life are the turtles in my pond so you have GOT to post a video of just the seals playing -- that was super!

Video looks great, but we're you able to fix the uneven horizon problem?  It seems that almost every video posted on this forum exhibits a tilted horizon.
