Today I will be sending my Mavic Pro to DJI due to a few issues I'm having.

1st issue...

when you start the drone up by pushing the battery button twice is goes into an obvious "boot sequence" and you will see and hear some basic signs as it boots.  At the point where the boot sequence completes and everything should be normal and ready to fly both of the front red led lights turn off and will not come back on.  yes if i reboot the drone the lights will come on during the boot sequence but again they will shut off after the boot completes.  yes i have tried every possible thing to try fixing the issue myself.  one of my main troubles with this issue is that there are no menu options anywhere at all that give me the manual led on/off.  not in the main settings or in the camera settings like they show you in some youtube videos.  i even tried reinstalling the DJI app twice.  I called customer support and they went threw everything with me and they told me to send it in.

this was about a week ago.  i had some flights that i needed to do so im just sending it in today.  this brings me to the second issue

2nd issue...

this morning before i send my drone in i decided to fly it for a bit because we finally have some good weather.  i start up the drone and i get "gimbal motor overload" warnings.  the gimbal wont align correctly.  i check and recheck the gimbals movements and i cant see anything wrong with it.  there isnt any debris that i can see.  i manually moved and rotated the  gimbal in all  its directions and eventually it aligned properly.  the gimbal worked fine until i switched to a new battery and then i got the warnings all over again.  i have no idea what is wrong with it.  Guess im  glad that im sending it in today.

i hope it doesnt take too long to get it back

They send refurbished units out and will repair yours and give it to someone else down the line. You need to bind the lights to a controller function and turn them on.

By chance did you update Firmware on drone / rc about a week ago?

If you did, it would be worth a try of reverting back to previous firmware version using DJI's Assistant 2.

sent mine in for repairs a while back and DJI sent me a new one,  I only found out about that while reading forum, apparently that is often the case,  they send you another drone, check the SN #  if it's a refurbish one it will have an R at the end of the SN#.

I think they send refurbished replacements. My only issue with this policy is when exchanging a brand new Mavic Pro for replacement drone, especially if you're sending newly activated Mavic Pro that has never flown? DJI currrent policy requires a refund in order to repurchase back another brand new drone. Refunds, however, are only provided with money back to drones returned: 1. within 7 days from first receiving; 2. have NOT yet been activated. I purchased my Mavic Pro brand new, had no knowledge that there would be Remote Controller error upon setting up the unit that requires me to ship back the drone for servicing, where I'd be provided a refurbished replacement unit of an unboxed Mavic Pro not newly activated but never flown.

DJI needs to revise this policy for situations when owners who buy new drones unknowingly activate the unit but then have servicing issues that requires them to ship back the drone for replacement. In this instance DJI should exchange a newly unboxed drone with another new drone, either an unboxed or boxed new, but never flown, drone. The current situation provides no protection to buyers of new drones that require initial service before operation.

Ok here's an update....

I've sent my mavic pro in for repairs and they sent me an email today which i will provide here for you all to see.

I called customer support and emailed them letting them know that i will not accept a refurbished drone at all.  Mainly due to the fact that my drone wasn't but two weeks old when my first issue came about.

I gave them 3 options...

1. Fix my drone as new under warranty.

2. Replace it with a brand new one.

3. Give me a full refund and i will buy a new one.

Thats the only actions i will accept.

I have pictures of my serial number and i have marked both my drone and remote control so i can identify if i get my stuff back.

I will continue to keep you updated.

Another update.

Just got a follow up email from dji regarding my mavic pro.  Picture of email from today below.

They are sending me a brand new mavic pro to replace mine. I called to confirm that it is indeed a new drone and not refurbished.  The serial number as you will see in the photo has no "R" in it.  The second picture is of the serial number from the drone i sent in.

So no im not getting my original drone back but at least im not getting a refurbished drone to replace the one i literally just bought a month ago.

I will check it out once it arrives and will then consider the matter closed satisfactorily if everything looks good.

New drone came today.  After a visual inspection it is a new drone.

They did return my original remote and im completely fine with that. I will have to link it with the new drone but they provided instructions on how to do that.

They also included 4 new stock blades.

I'm completely satisfied with everything that has taken place.

Next thing for me to verify is that the manual settings for turning the front leds on and off is in the menus where its supposed to be.

I'll post on that when i get a chance.

Do you run android or ios?

On android you need to allocate one of the C1 or C2 buttons in the RC settings to switch Led's on or off.

I have gone threw every setting in all the menus and i do not have any settings at all that allow me to set any buttons for the front led lights.  There are no manual settings in the main controls or in the camera settings either

Should be here. If you select the options for the buttons you can scroll down for more.

I have double and triple checked all menus and options in all the different places and dont have any settings for those lights.  The only setting i have is for the auto on/off when shooting videos

Hi, in regards to our concern about the options where we can turn off and on the lights since due to some updates with our application, unfortunately, that option was already removed under DJI Go 4 app. Please keep us updated in any case you need our assistance. Thank you.

Why in gods name would DJI remove these options for the front LED lights?  How the hell am i supposed to turn them on?

What happens when you send me another brand new drone and after a few flights they just turn off AGAIN and dont come back on?

Isn't this an FAA rule to have these lights on?  What about flying at the dusk to dark hours of the day?

IS DJI GONNA GIVE ME A BRAND NEW DRONE WHEN I CRASH IT IN THE DARK BECAUSE I CANT TELL WHAT DIRECTION ITS FLYING IN BECAUSE OF NOT HAVING THE FRONT LIGHTS ON?

WOW!

How incredibly stupid.

Remote menu pics

You have Turn Head LEDs off enabled. Also you can scroll down more in the menu for controller functions. At the bottom it says center metering but on the right you can see a scroll bar.

Yes thats for the "auto turn off" when shooting videos.  And thank you jeff for pointing out that slider bar on the right side. Swear on my life i never noticed it before.  You hit the nail on the head my man.   Sure as heck that the option for the head leds was down further. I feel so stupid because i never saw that slider bar.
