I am the owner of a pro and should I have to chhose all over again definately wont hesitate going the pro route as I up to date did not experience any limitations to the unit. It is sufficient for amateur footage and also to just fly a couple of odd circuits around the neighbourhood

Aloha fans16,

It really gets down to what you want to do with your new bird.  All DJI products are reliable beyond any other products on the market.  Some people complain but they are the exception.

Look at the SPECs for the cameras to see if they have what you want.  The Air has a better bitrate and can record 1080p at 120 frames per second and that makes for great slow motion.  But the Live View for the Air is limited to 720p at 30 frames per second and the Pro will allow 1080p, but both will work with goggles although the Pro can use OcuSync for wireless a connection.  Really look at the SPECs though for the cameras.

As for sensors, the Air has a front, back and down sensor suite.  The Pro only has front and down sensors.  The Air folds up smaller than the Pro and is generally more compact.  The Air can also fly with hand signals and is designed to fly indoors.  But, the Pro is more robust and does have slightly more options in general because it is slightly larger.

The Pro gets much better distance and time in the air.  But you really need to fly VLOS, Visual Line Of Sight.  There are a lot of reviews on YouTube comparing the two (and sometimes others), so you are encouraged to watch a number of them.

So really neither one is better, it is just that one or the other is better for you.

Aloha and Drone On!

Perhaps, wait for Mavic Pro 2 then it will be much easier to decide.

Really?   DJI has never ever even used the term Mavic 2 and has not said anything about releasing a new Mavic type of drone.   Why recommend someone should wait for something that doesn't exist as far as anyone knows.

100% choose the Mavic! U will not be disappointed, I've had it for a year now and still amazes me. I wouldn't have an air even if you gave me one!

I chose the Mavic Pro Platinum for the quiet, along with the OcuSync wireless connection to Goggles. I've had it since last Wednesday. I'm pretty happy with it.

It's hard to compare apples to potatoes. Spark and MA are suitable for a comparison ...IMO...

I had the Spark for a month at most and then went to the Mavic Pro. The more stable connection and longer flight time sold me on it. I was also looking at the Air vs the Pro.  I want to stay away from WiFi drones since I had a bad experience with my Spark, so it was an easy decision.

And why wait for the, not even rumored. Pro 2?  Depending where you live the time to fly is now!  It’s nice outside finally.

I got the Air and regret. If you can choose take the pro. Air is too much bugged and only real 15min flight time.

thank you for saying this.  I've seen so many people saying wait for the Mavic Pro 2.  If it was an announced product, then maybe.  If you've already got a drone, and want to wait for what we all believe will be the love child of the Air and the Pro, then cool.. wait it out.

But there is NO way, i'm just sitting and waiting for a drone that hasn't even been announced.

The decision on which to get really depends on what you want.

Longer range (>3.5 KM) = Mavic Pro
4k Camera = Mavic Air
WiFi connection vs RC connection = RC connection, therefore Mavic Pro
portability = Mavic Air (although only slightly)

So the question isn't which is better.  The question is which is better for you?

I thought it's still rumored to be released soon. If that is not the case, I would go with Mavic Pro. I bought a brand new Mavic Pro at the price of Mavic Air.

The simplest way to explain the difference between the Mavic Pro to Mavic Air has to do with overall personal use. If you're interested in close proximity and plan flying around obstacles then the Mavic Air has A.P.A.S. that can better safeguard your flights. If you're more experienced and plan on flying farther and longer but also would like more camera features and less noise then Mavic Pro.
