Rochester, MN has a once-a-week street festival with bands and vendors every Thursday through the summer. I kept my drone over the buildings in every shot, and never flew directly above the crowds.

Very nice .
I really don't like the fact 'we' are not allowed to make these shots in NL.
We have to keep a safe (advice: 50m+) distance from people, buildings etc.

Can the distance be straight up 50 meter? haha, probably not. I just kept my flight path over the buildings and only had to tilt my gimbal a little to look down at everyone. I was probably 1/2 a block away from being over everyone. Here's some pics of my flight path. I highlighted the street festival in bright green.

Nope, it is horizontally.
And if you think about it, it does make sense to at least keep 20m distance.
When your drone decides to fall down, it might not fall down in a straight descent....
(I think 50m is too much on the safe side, but somewhere between 30-50 should be good)

In the wrong hands during loss of GPS up to a mile could be an unsafe distance. Maybe if the battery pops out the drone would drop straight down, but I'm guessing most fly aways cover lots of distance and to predict where it would land is just a guessing game.

Excellent video.
The Tiny Planet in the video was a nice touch.
Glad to see you didn't fly over the crowd. It is always best to fly safety.

Yes, that is probably true.
