I see on the BBC News website that President Trump has decided to impose 25% tariffs on Chinese goods - will this encompass DJI products in the USA?  After all, DJI manufactures it's products in Shenzhen, China, quite close to Hong Kong.

"US President Donald Trump is to impose 25% tariffs on $50bn worth of Chinese goods, accusing Beijing of intellectual copyright theft.

Tariffs that affect more than 800 products worth $34bn in annual trade are due to come into effect on 6 July.

The White House said it would consult on tariffs on the other $16bn of products, and would apply these later."

Short answer:  It sure looks like it, at least a vast majority of the electronic parts used are effected, as well as 'aircraft parts', remote controllers and even batteries and such…

Here's the full list.
https://ustr.gov/sites/default/f ... ations/List%201.pdf

Search the document for 8802 and 8803.  I can't find any HS codes on the web specific to UAV, UAS, RPAS, quad- or multi- copters, so it looks like the drones are not specifically specified in a HS code and fall under NESOI (Not Elsewhere Specified Or Indicated) and therefore fall under 8802.20.00

Enforcement from the 6th of July, Ouch…

If the new drones are already in the US, I don't think they will be tax but future imports will

Short answer is no, the 25% tariff will only apply to steel and most other big ticket items such as cars, agriculture items and marine items...

Well I don't know but do you think any company/companies might want to increase their market value by 25% in the future, whether justified or not.    Learning to speak French and chirp like a Parrot just in case!

I sincerely hope you're right. The list I posted in the 3rd post is the complete and official list of both products, semi-finished products and parts affected by these tariffs. It consists of the official harmonized system codes used for custom clearances and tariffs, and they do suggest otherwise.

If you look into that document you will see it's way broader then just steel, cars, agriculture or marine items.

I would really like to be proven wrong, but as far as I can tell DJI's Camera drones are affected, I can't find any HS code that distinct camera drones other then the forementioned 8802.20.00  But maybe someone else has more luck, they should be categorised and found on these sites: https://hts.usitc.gov/ or https://www.foreign-trade.com/reference/hscode.htm

I’m positive that DJI products are NOT included in the tariff, DJI isn’t a very big company when it comes to world economics......

It doesn't really matter if DJI is a big company in world economics... The tariff's don't target 'consumer' products like phone's or TV's, probably because citizens will feel that immediately, but they do target 'hi-tech' products.

I've done a little digging into what HS code camera drones fall into;

8802.11.00.jpg
Source worlwide tariff code notice for 'consumer drones';   https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/tariff-notice-13-2017-remote-controlled-multi-rotor-helicopter-so-called-drone/tariff-notice-13-2017-remote-controlled-multi-rotor-helicopter-so-called-drone
And the regulation which it refers to; https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?qid=1491307126403&uri=CELEX:32017R0285

All of the HS codes mentioned in the article which relate to camera drones or parts thereoff are still on the tariff list that takes effect on the 6th of july...

as fairly rude and abrupt american... i.. not much i have to actually say....

ok no on a serious note however, it really comes down to loop holes and classifications.  right now classifications are a bit narrow  and tight with specifics and there is potential that Dji wont tick enough boxes off to get hit.

Hey, any folks know the story of the mavic 2 drones?
Were they tariffed? Where was the shipping source from? China?

Comparing at the DJI store US vs other countries, it doesn't seem like there was additional tariffs applied.
Unless they absorbed it.
