I am looking for a new tablet and really like my old trusty Samsung Note 10.1.
Using that everyday as a replacement for paper and pencil in meetings.

Now it is ready to be replaced and the Samsung Tab S3 looks like the perfect replacement.
I would also like to be able to use it for DJI Go4.
BUT.
I am reading a lot of Android issues here.
Not on every device, so therefore my question:
Is anybody here using the Samsung Tab S3 and how does that work with DJI Go4?

Thanks in advance

I have it since last winter and it workes(d) great. It could also handle screen recording whith live view being smooth when flying.
That is the real benchmark test for tablets used with the Go4 app I think.

It JUST fits in the holder. I found a sun shade for it.
Since the S3 doesn't have a centered charging port I had to cut a new hole for it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VWC5MBM/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_2_w

Since the 4.2.16 Go4 update something has changed. It has hick-ups now with screen recording.
Sometimes I have issues to connect and only restarting the tablet will help.

I did some final testing yesterday and then decided  to do the 8.0 update.
I'll tell you in the next few days how it turned out.

Thanks a lot.
That does give some confidence to at least try it.

Hi. Thank you for the inquiry. I recommend using the recommended mobile device for your DJI Mavic Pro for compatibility and reliability purposes. I will be posting the list of the recommended mobile device for the DJI Mavic Pro for reference.

Yes, always begin a new device discovery, through the DJI recommended list of approved devices already tested, to perform.

In this case I really want the Samsung Tab S3.
But as an added bonus it would be great to use it for DJI.
IF Apple had a similar product that was priced in the same way, I would choose that.
But the iPad Pro (that has full support for stylus) is way out of my league.

Yes, the top of the line Apple products are cost prohibitive for many.
If that Android device works well for you, then you should be a happy rc pilot.

So many times folks try to cheap out on the device and possibly have very poor experiences.

I feel fortunate, that I could afford the iPad Air 2 Cellular, when the time came for me to step up...
The whole DJI piloting experience for me, has been nothing but top notch.. never a hitch, or hiccup.

Yes, the Air 2 would be ok pricewise, but I use my stylus on a daily basis. (almost).
So that is a 'must have' for my new tablet.
And the Pro is simply too much....

Yes, that stylus requirement and price preference certainly does put some limits of your choices.

Unless you bought from a source where there are “like new” items such as Amazon.
We also have the Kijiji website over here.

I know, but once you get used to it, it is very convenient and completely replaced paper and pencil for my everyday use.
(I write a lot of notes during the day, and now don't have to drag all of them around )

So I did test it today with Android 8: Fu*ck Me!
It became unusable. The worst screen lags I ever experienced on a device. (And this without screen recording running).
I even restarted the device while being airborne. Nothing helped. I had to bring the drone back visually.

I'll have to revert back. Can I go back to Android 6? The S3 came with 7.0
By reading a lot about it, it seems that 6 is the best Android version for Go4.

Hope DJI will fix that!

I would think it's more an Android issue. I mean - it did run under 7.0.
Not perfect anymore after Go4 4.2.16 but still...

Today I did a factory reset but still same problem.
And have no idea how to go back to 7.0. This rooting/hacking stuff I don't know.

It should be possible, but I would have to do a google for that.
No experience from my side.

Don't worry. I've asked it in an Android forum.
It might require root. Not sure. Rooting is too complicated for me though.

Don't even understand all these terms in the description.
They keep talking about using ODIN. No fu*cking idea what that is ;-)

Yes, I will manage, but only after a lot of googling.

If only they had an affordable alternative (with stylus like the S3) it would be a no brainer indeed.
But the iPad Pro is about twice the price of the S3.

I must say I like the way Go4 works on iOS.
So my first choice would be an Apple device.
But, since funds are limited and I need a replacement for my Note 10.1 (I use that on a daily basis as a notepad) the S3 is a logical choice.

Yes, they are expensive, but I bought mine from a pawn shop and saved a lot.

So which iPad would you think is best currently for our purposes?
Please suggest only one that fits in the regular holder.

I have a Mini 4 but the Go4 app brings it to its limits.
And I do likle to do screen recording and the Mini 4 can't handle this while flying/live view.

I thought the mini 4 was on the recommended list, was just letting the jungle drums sound in my network that i would like one if someone know of one laying around.
Is it not up to the task even being on the list or are the several models that not are all useful?

My Mini4 was great till some Go4 update last fall. Since then it has hick ups.
Especially when doing turns while flying sideways it starts stuttering.
I can still use it (and do so now since my S3 tablet is down) but I wouldn't buy it anymore.

Thank you, that is not the way then i can hear.
Guess i should investigate if it is possible to get android to a level that will work on a Galaxy tab and/or Galaxy tab 2. currently they have 2.3.3 (gingerbread) and 4.1.2, both refuse to install the app.
Not needed for flying but more for some test and flight record management due to the bigger 7'' screen than the 5.5'' on the +.
