The difference between UAS, knives, cars and ladders is simple. Almost everyone uses a car, ladder or knife from time to time. Threatening to take those things away would negatively impact the overwhelming majority of people - so politicians won't do it. UAS are used by a minority of people. Even if every UAS owner or operator in the USA voted for or against any particular president, it would not meaningfully affect the outcome. So politicians can be seen by their constituency as "DOING something" by legislating against UAS in response to all this panic-inducing news coverage, and it won't hurt them politically (and may benefit them by making it look as though they're responsive to problems). |
