Hi,

I'm looking for a car charger for the P3 -- 12V.

Does anyone know if I can use the first part of the cable from the Phantom 2 series car chargers and connect that to the Phantom 3 charger? Does this work with the wall chargers?

The best I can come up with so far is an inverter, but they waste a lot of energy!

Thanks.

Inverters don't waste that much.  A modern inverter is typically in the 90% efficiency range.  So you might suffer a 10% loss at most.  Not a big deal.

I ordered this Power Inverter out of a recommendation from www.phantomhelp.com They have not steered me wrong yet and the owner of this site is a member of this forum. I received it yesterday but haven't tried a charge yet. The unit is built very well. Will be doing my first charge this afternoon in the car. I can come back and report if you wish.

Here is the Inverter: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ ... 0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Let me know how you like it and if it works well, might pick one up as well! Thanks

You should look into getting a pure sine wave inverter if you're charging in the field and want to help maintain the longevity of your batteries. All of those cheaper inverters produce a modified wave or square wave which give out a lower voltage of 110v vs your home outlet at 120v. They produce a dirtier, more inconsistent current and when charging delicate electronics, such as lipo batteries with sensors in them, its definitely recommended to use pure sine wave. They will run you around 5 times the cost of the cheap-o ones but they'll last longer and so will your electronics.  I own a Samlex, they make quality pure sine inverters but there are other good options too.. good investment if you ask me

agree bradleydraifing,
a inverter is not the best thing, but for the moment the only option as we all only have one battery..
I'm more concerned about people recharging the hot battery pack straight after flying,
you should wait around 15 mins to cool down the battery pack, high temperature can kill it.

Thanks. I will take this under advisement. I knew about the cool battery from the P1.

That one should be fine, I have the 300 but again, I can only, truly get 300 watts from it when I hardline it to my deep cycle marine battery.

Ah ok. Was wondering how much latency you get from a cigarette lighter. Thanks again for the info!

Yea I wish. With the car charger I can get maybe two sessions in the morning and then I'm done for the day. It's hit the rainy season here and winds are picking up too.

I have a question, i have a Chevy Tahoe 2015, it comes with an equipped 110v Outlet, do you think it works to connect the P3 oem wall charger and charge a battery?

The 110v outlet in your car is basically just a modified sine wave inverter tucked away under a panel in your car. Will it work? Yes it definitely will work. If you're going to be doing a lot of charging from DC power though, you should consider investing in a pure sine inverter. You may not notice a difference at first but the batts should last longer and the drone should perform better all in all on a cleaner current.
