Sounds like more than enough.
I use absolut half that capasity and can edit footage Witherspoon some lag..
Guess yours will be  smooth.

I'm struggling to settle in a platform to go with.  It all seems very expensive.  Which software, and then, which hardware?

I  opted to go with Apple Final Cut Pro when buying my iPad mini and added on the one to one package in the apple shop.  This allows for personal 1 to 1 training on the Final Cut Pro for 12 months, which if you had to pay to a third party training company or college would be a ridiculous price.

I am new to editing video and I am finding the Final Cut Pro challenging but at the same time picking it up quickly.  With support from the Apple 1 to 1 training this is proving to be a good choice.

I have an old iMac from 2008 and I really like the setup with everything inside the cover of the screen ...
Was a bit tricky to exchange a broken hard-drive though ... but I managed with an online tutorial.

I ordered the Final Cut Pro X with this hard ware ... curious to see if I am able to learn it!

I'm looking at the latest 2015 MacBook 13" Pro retina, reviews say it now does the 4k editing and can output to some  4k monitors, including several ultra 4K led flatscreen TVs...$$

Thats probably a good choice if you are traveling a lot and want to be able to edit on the go ...
How much is it?

if you will use adobe premiere cc 2014+ you would like to change radeon for nvidia

I am just a bit worried that the 5K screen on this will make the footage from the I1 look "poor" ...

The Mac your looking at will work fine. You might want to look at the Media 100 editing software, Its so much faster then Final Cut or Premier.

The image will lok great on that screen ..
No down sides what i have seen so far on those that i used..
I have an iMac 27" from late 09' and i think the quality is great but it cant handle the editing of 4k material.

I have the same and an amazing machine to work! enjoy!

You'll be happy , the owner of the  copter shop showed me some inspire 4k footage unedited on their new iMac 27" retina 5k ... Really nice !

It´s expected to arrive between 4-8 of June ...

My old iMac with a 24" screen from 2008 will be used as a "high tech" DVD-player for my kids ... spoiled brats!

I just read that intel will be releasing a new processor in august ...
But I guess that what ever hardware you buy it will be "old" the second you pay for it.

Good thing with apple that at least it takes some time before it´s completely out of date.
I could probably sell my old iMac from 2008 for a couple of 100 bucks ...

It still kicks ass with my 1 year old lap top that I got from work.

I got a Lenovo y50 with 4k screen 16gb RAM 512 SSD, 960m Nvidia 4gb, using Sony Vegas and I'm able to edit RAW 4k files no problemo

with this set up i work on limits at 4K with video files from gopro 4
in i try to but a plugin i must render to have preview.

I've owned too many crappy pc , laptop Microsoft stuff that seems to never work properly, get every virus possible, and are like owning an antique rusted out old car after only a few years ... After using Mac based units I'll Never go back.
Apple seems to work better for me so far with my other devices which I enjoy using ...
If I could afford it i would have the iMac 27" retina 5k , I've seen some raw footage on the copter shops unit , really nice ... The MacBook 13" retina I'm thinking will do for me as I like a portable unit to work on, then maybe later on an ultra 4k led flatscreen tv ,then link the Mac to that for replaying the finished product ...
