Just an FYI, I have a new Phantom 4 and use it with an iPad AIR (V1).  Since I live in Vegas, during this time of year, it gets wicked hot.  I noticed that after 15-20 minutes of flying, my Video transmission would become unstable, yet no warnings.  I determined this was being caused by the iPad getting hot.  Put a cold med wrap on it and resolved the problem.  I have also seen that it can cause some interference with the Antenna and thus, put some Farady Tape behind it to make sure the iPad RF was blocked between the Antenna.  Just sharing some OJT Tech Tips.  There are some great places to fly out here.

Hi. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and the trouble that this caused you. I recommend you to avoid direct sunlight to your iPad when flying your drone to avoid overheating. You can also use a remote controller hood to protect your iPad from sunlight. You can check this link for reference. https://store.dji.com/product-search?q=hood. Thank you.

Thanks for the info.  I do have a hood, but it's basically the crazy heat here.  I proved this the other evening when I was chasing the back end of a storm in the desert that dropped the temperature 20 degrees for an hour.  The chill packs work pretty well and I have to take a cooler along for water anyway.  It's just the nature of the beast.  I'm in IT and know what heat does to things.  Since I'm somewhat of a newbie to the Phantom 4, I just had to get out and fly.  I just wanted to make sure others who might have experienced this, since it is Summer, they might have some insight.

I've experienced this same issue here in Phoenix but with my iPad mini. My iPad 10.5 doesn't seem to have the same issue in the same heat. What temperatures are you experiencing this in?

Ha ha, I don't me to laugh but this just happened to my buddy in FLA. He was 1/4 mile out in the Keys at about 350ft altitude and his iPad shut off! He was freaking out. He said that he was able to use his iPhone and connect to it and bring it back. Whew!

HOMEMADE RESOLUTION TO OVERHEATING TABLETS

This only works for Phantom 4 & Phantom 3 Pro and will resolve overheating of a tablet.

It will resolve overheating which results in inconsistant display, yet not receiving any Video Transmission Errors.

Its a V1 prototype, but here it is.  To me, I think there might be a better way to hold the Gel Pack so you can have more of a professional look to the whole thing, but I really needed to do proof of concept and prove this was causing the video problems.

Materials purchased from Amazon

Controller Sunshade $12.00

10" Padded Envelope Cut to Size and open on one end to insert the Gel Pack

I also put some Farady Tape on the back of the iPad to prevent interference with the Antenna.

I also make sure to turn OFF WIFI and BLUETOOTH on both the iPad and my Phone while flying.

100 ish at Sunset using iPad Air V1 with cover, but just too much heat.  I believe the GPU is working too hard and thus causing the excessive heat.  Heat is the enemy of all electronics.

I also forgot to mention that since now the iPad runs much cooler, no video transmission errors and battery life is back to normal.  Battery would also get used up faster with the heat.

You can strap the Gel Pack directly to the back, I just wanted to have one level of non-direct cooling and basically a moisture barrier.

So to take this up a notch.  I purchased a hard shell iPad case and removed the flip front cover, purchased at Amazon for $10.00 https://www.amazon.com/gp/produc ... 1_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then purchased a black pouch for another $6.00 https://www.amazon.com/gp/produc ... 1_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and here are some pics of the final assembly. including the Farady tape on the inside of the iPad shell.
Now it all fits perfect, looks clean and is a tight fit.  We all like a tight fit, don't we?
