Hello,

Will the DJI Go app work on an iPad Air 1? I am using it for a Phantom 3 Pro.

Thank you.

The app is quite demanding and requires a tablet with a lot of performance.
Older tablets like the Air 1 won't run the app properly.

Okay, that is what I was wondering. I did try an iPad 2 on my DJI Phantom 3 Standard but it seemed a bit slow.  Works great on my phone, but hard to see the tiny popups. Not compatible with my professional.

What is the cheapest Apple tablet that I could get by with?

Don’t think about cheaper device, but more than adequate...

I might suggest an iPad Air2 Cellular. What I use, & it’s has been stellar...

If you want an optimal experience, buy a device that is more than necessary. If that makes sense.

The better your device, the more you will appreciate the whole flight kit...

Flying my Phantom 3 Pro’, never had a single bad experience in three years...

Right. What I am wondering is what is the most inexpensive Apple device that will do the job well.

I was just out on ebay looking at an ipad air 2. Thank you for the information!

I would think the iPad Air2 (Cellular) would be the very minimum device, for the very best of its ability and dedicated service.

I can put my trust in it, 100%.

If you did a survey, on iPad Air2 customers here, I would be surprised if any had complaints or situations, that were device related.

You can save a few dollars by going for a wifi only model.
There's almost no reason at all to pay extra for the cellular version.

That is what I plan to get. Thank you for your opinion.

It would better if we could fix aging so that I could still read the tiny messages that pop up when I am using my iphone.

I solved that visual problem, simply. I wear a pair of Bluetooth headphones while flying...

All or most important warning messages are also verbally declared.
The headphones helps to avoid looking down at the screen.

But if I do, I also have Lume Cubes on my drone, which increase my VLOS, immensely. Haha

You can also pinch squeeze the screen and make the tiny unreadable font legible.

That’s very true, but is it worth losing the three or more reasons to have the Celllar version?
That of which is the iPad that actually contains the GPS module.

Lose the ability of changing dynamic home point, not using autonomous flight modes, and of course, without an active cellular network, you may not stream live video to your YouTube channel or Facebook page.

Just food for thought.... perhaps consider spending more, & getting the Cellular version. ;-)

Post back what you choose.. thanks.

Where i ran into issues was it lost signal for three seconds and went into the failsafe return to home and started ascending to the return to home altitude where it lost signal momentarily again.

I would have canceled it and brought it back but there were popups and it is hard to hit the tiny x and get them out of the way.

Decided not to mess with anything and just let it go up, do its thing and then land. Didn’t want to inadvertently cancel the failsafe return to home during a signsl liss situation.

There was a cell phone about 1/2 mile away. Wondering if that was the issue.

Tiny print + fat fingers means i should get something bigger.

Very few flyers use the features that depend on cellular connectivity or having GPS in the tablet.

the ability of changing dynamic home point
When was the last time you reset the homepoint to your current location?
btw .. it's not dynamic
It's only used by those that fly from a moving boat or vehicle - and since they aren't wanting to actually land on the boat or vehicle, they could just as well use the alternative reset to current location of the Phantom to prevent the drone wanting to return to where it was launched when the battery gets too low for that journey.

using autonomous flight modes

The only autonomous flight mode that requires GPS in the tablet is Follow-me.
Again, very few flyers are using this but if they want it, Active tracking works much better and doesn't need GPS in the tablet

and of course, without an active cellular network, you may not stream live video to your YouTube channel or Facebook page.
If that floats your boat, that's good for you.
I'm not seeing many users doing this though.

All up, having GPS in the tablet or cellular connectivity isn't much use at all for most flyers, most of the time.
There's certainly no compelling reason to pay extra for it in my experience.

A cell phone (or even a cell phone tower) 1/2 miles away (or even 100 ft away) makes no difference to anything.

It was at a football field by a school. Just speculating on the signal issue. I just avoid the area and go elsewhere.

Could be buried hydro pipe, or electrical cables.

Jimmy Hoffa resting place. ;-)

Let’s just say it’s nice to have all options available, to the end user.

Why limit yourself?

You named off all of the advantages to getting the cellular model, and-heck yeah, buy a SIM card for it... hahaha

How about buying the iPad Pro instead? Yes, with stylus and iWatch...?

Why limit yourself? Grin

He said that it lost signal for three seconds and went into the failsafe return to home which is exactly what it's programmed to do.
Buried pipes and electrical cables might cause compass interference if you are within 3 feet but they don't cause loss of signal.
That's due to flying behind trees or buildings or just flying out of range.

Yup, you narrowed it down... so what caused the disconnect??
