Listen brother, I want to be supportive, but you sound like a newbie who is in over your head. Buying expensive gear doesn't make you a professional, and most professional gear will not work out of the box, it's unforgiving and is intended for people who know how to use it, or at the very least intend to LEARN how to use it. I'll address your points.
1. It has a cable to add extended features to compatible cameras, the engineers are working to expand functionality, but considering the number of camera manufacturers and model types, there's no way they could accommodate everyone.
2. the Devin Graham signature series glidecam is $800 USD and it's literally a metal pole and some weights. ALL it does is stabilize and ask anyone who's ever tried one and they'll tell you there's a STEEP learning curve to get that thing to even begin stabilizing your footage.
3. The move you're trying to do is not supported with this gimbal, it was not designed to be supported and was not advertised as supported, that's like saying "I can't fit this crane in my house, it's too big this is ridiculous!" The more you learn about gimbal operation you will understand that move shouldn't be performed anyway, it doesn't look good and I guarantee you there is a move that IS supported that will look much nicer and function as intended when you learn it.
4. Balance the gimbal and autotune EVERYTIME you turn it on, the Ronin-S does not save motor parameters, it readjusts itself every time it's turned off and on. So you need to recalibrate every time. This does not apply if you just pause the motors.
5. The lag and jerkiness are most likely tied to your smoothtrack settings, by default the Ronin-S is way too responsive and heavy so the slight movements of most users just trying to hold the thing causes it to pan and twist in response when it shouldn't. I agree with you here, I experienced the same thing at first, go into your smooth track settings and turn everything to 0 and start dialing up and see what responsiveness levels work for your style. After I adjusted this, it responds exactly as I want it to.
6. I agree it would be nice to be able to buy accessories, but that's just the nature of DJI, they had a semi-rocky launch of the Ronin-S, so I imagine it was all hands on deck to get that sorted. Shipping and producing existing Ronin-S orders and preorders is probably more of a priority than releasing accessories but I know they're working on it and I'm excited for when they're released. It was the same thing for the OSMO pro, pieces for that setup were released slowly and unannounced.
7. The battery lasts 12 hours, why do you need a second one? When they release the cables to charge your camera through the Ronin-S I can imagine having a need for a second battery then, but we don't even really know how much that will affect the Ronin-S' battery life yet. There's also talk of an adapter to charge multiple Ronin-s batteries without the need of the gimbal, apparently, this will also have a USB port to make your Ronin-S a battery hub to charge your phone. This is in line with the other multi-charging docks DJI has designed for their batteries.
Finally, I understand your frustrations, you expected to have a magical stabilizer that you plopped your camera on and voila perfect footage but that is not possible with ANY piece of equipment that exists. If you ever have an opportunity to visit a real set one day, pay attention to the amount of crew and operators it takes to make a shot look like it belongs in the movies. The Ronin-S is an amazing piece of equipment with major professional applications, I've enjoyed using it and hope you learn to use it too.
If you have any further questions regarding balancing and settings tips, please post a video of how your setup is currently balanced and screenshot your smoothtrack settings and I would be happy to assist you in getting the most out of your Ronin-S. Goodluck. |
