Most of the features Magic Lantern unlocks are video related, things like Zebra stripes etc, although ti varies from camera to camera what it unlocks. It's also only available on a very small number of cameras.
These are the video features they have listed on there websute:
Full control over H264 bitrate.
Full control of recording framerate.
Record HDR video.
Custom vignetting for lens correction.
Record 14-bit uncompressed RAW video to your CF/SD card.
Looking at there forums, Raw video is 14bit, and can do 24fps max on the 5d3 at 1080p
I think it was the 5D2 that I was originally looking at magic lantern for, which can only do 1720 x 968 24fps, it can do 1080 but only for a few seconds (using the cameras buffer, as the card interface isn't fast enough to keep up.
By my, possibly wrong, calculations that should be 680 mbps, or 85MB/s . For reference, Class 10= 10MB/s sustained read speed. The latest SD cards from Sandisk can apparently do 250MB/s peak write speed, but who knows what there sustained speed is. The fastest mSD cards are about 99mb/s max write speed, but require an UHS-II U# card interface, which very little devices support at the moment.
Proper cinema camera shooting 5-8k 120 FPS normally have custom recording devices, utalizing single or multiple SSD's |
