Edit: I learned that my belief that Ocusync 2.0 wasn’t compatible with the first version, was incorrect. So please disregard my post. According to DJI the Goggles will be compatible with Mavic 2.0.

Maybe some clarification is needed. I have the white "regular" goggles that first came out. Are they compatible with the Mavic 2?

Hi Jeff, just to clarify, the Mavic 2 supports DJI Goggles version 01.04.0500 (or later versions) and DJI Goggles RE version 01.00.0600 (or later versions), you may refer to the screenshot below.
Besides, I noticed that you mentioned the issue about the Mavic controller, may I know the issue that you had encountered? I would like to help. ggles.png

Honestly, I don't know how DJI could not incorporate compatibility with OcuSync 2.0 and the DJI Original Goggles? The Racing Goggles are made primarily for racing drones, then if that's the case then we should be entitled to see a drop in price for the racing addition to the same price as the current original Goggles?

The RE has additional functionality being able to auto-switch between 2.4 and 5.8Ghz.

A function of Occusync 2.0.

Occusync 2.0 is forward and backward compatible at 2.4Ghz for Occusync 1.0

So RE Goggles work with both Mavic 1 and 2.
Mavic 1 and 2 work with original Goggles.

But. RE Goggles flight packs only work with RE Goggles I believe. Haven't tested yet.

I thought there was no difference between the RE and original DJI Goggles, except if you wanted to FPV race drones or anything Analog 5.8 GHz, then the RE Edition was expected to replace the need for someone flying both, DJI and Race Quads, in needing to require two separate pairs of FPV goggles?

As in my case, I fly DJI and FPV race quads and RC planes. I purchased FatShark Dominator V3's and now I'm interested in an FPV experience using the DJI Goggles. I purchased the FatShark's thinking the DJI Goggles weren't as comfortable and that I could just buy both pairs for approx. the same price as the RE Edition. This purchasing theory with the release of the Mavic 2 is now debunked?

What is the difference between Analog video and OcuSync? Isn't Analog video not digital but just a live video broadcast at a much lower latency and resolution than high definition presumably from OcuSync? The OcuSync 1 in the Goggles is not switching betwen 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz because it doesn't have 5.8Ghz band built inside? However, Lightbridge technology does switch between 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz that uses an enhanced WiFi signal to broadcast? But OcuSync utilizes its own frequencies, where there wasn't as much residual usage nor common interference? Although if the Analog is cast over 5.8GHz, how does OcuSync 2.0 now utilize this Analog frequency - to broadcast FHD? Does OcuSync 2 have 5.8GHz built inside and it can switch between OcuSync 1's digital only frequencies with Analog 5.8GHz to still throw out a FHD picture?

What am I missing?

Occusync transmits digital video.  The original goggles will work with the Mavic 2 once you upgrade the goggles to FW 1.04.0500 or above.  The original Goggles, however,  only support 2.4 Ghz so they can only connect to the Mavic 2 on that band.  The RE Goggles support both 2.4 & 5.8 Ghz.

I assume the Mavic 2 will recognize this & limit the connection to the 2.4 Ghz band when it detects a connection with the original Goggles.  Basically you should be good once the new goggle firmware is released.

Thanks. I know OcuSync 2 uses both 2.4 & 5.8 GHz, but does the Mavic Pro 1 with OcuSync 1 support both 2.4 & 5.8 GHz, also or just 2.4 GHz?

In fact, DJI Goggles RE had just released the firmware to support Mavic 2. DJI Goggles has not released the firmware, but it will be able to connect when v01.04.0500 released. Thank you for your attention.

The Fatsharks are 5.8Ghz analogue. It is an analogue signal not digital.

The Goggles (White) Only Support 2.4Ghz Digital Occusync 1 and is backward compatible to Occusync 2 on 2.4 Ghz only.

The Goggles RE (Black) Support 2.4 Ghz Digital, 5.8Ghz Digital Occusync 2.0 and 1.0 compatible as well as 5.8Ghz Analogue  using the pagoda antenna provided with the RE for Analogue reception. ( same as fatsharks)

Thanks DJI Thor for the confirmation. I think there's been some confusion on my part since the release of Mavic 2. Being a Mavic Pro owner, I was aware the difference between Lightbridge to OcuSync, is that Lightbridge utilizes switching between 2.4 and 5.8 GHz, where OcuSync doesn't. Now I don't understand the difference between OcuSync 2 and Lightbridge? I always thought OcuSync found on the Mavic Pro was the superior transmission to Lightbridge? Now it seems OcuSync 2 is more comparable to Lightbridge?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am super confused from understanding the difference between how OcuSync can transmit digital over the 5.8GHz frequency? I guess the major difference you're saying is there's a level of latency over OcuSync that prevents it from being adopted over Analog frequencies, which are still being used by drone racers? What is proprietary over OcuSync being a competitive technology, if it has too much latency where competitive drone racers still are required to adopt Analog signals?

Is that from the original Mavic Pro manual?

Why would the aircraft operate @ 5.x Ghz when the controller only supports 2.4 Ghz? Sounds like a misprint. To my knowledge the original Mavic only communicates at 2.4 Ghz.  One of the major improvements in OccuSync 2.0 is that it adds 5.x Ghz  support.

In fact, that's confusing. From the DJI side: https://www.dji.com/mavic/info#specs
I am wondering about this:

It looks like Mavic 2 has no pad/phone wifi function - just OcuSync 2.
That should mean that Sync 2 is backwards compatible or the RCs and Goggles get a firmware with Sync 2 support.

Hmmm...  The Mavic Pro supports Wi-Fi control from a phone or tablet.  I've never used it but I wonder if it supports both 2.4 & 5.x ghz Wi-Fi connections?  That would explain why the bird shows 5 ghz but the controller does not.

Also never used, but will try it...
Done. I thought it's like similar to Spark - no, it's not, RC is not needed.

Yes you are confused. Think of Analogue and Digital the same way you would think about AM and FM radio.

You cant receive FM on an AM radio and vice versa.

Its the same with old Analogue TV and new digital TV.

Analogue is sending  a wave. Like a Sine wave. Digital is breaking the wave down into its values and converting it to digital packets.

Also Occusync is not WiFi. It is a completely different technology. It just uses the same frequency bands as WiFi.

Hope this helps
