What good are they, if not drone racing?

I might add, that you only have one view, through the camera and no surrounding environment.

How far away do you often fly, that you lose VLOS without them?

Litchi is able to be used with Samsung Goggles. Just simply put the phone inside the goggles and Litchi separates the video into 2 images side by side that your eyes detect as one picture. As RHP notes though you will not be able to see anything but the camera view with data at the bottom of the screen showing your height and distance and all that data.

I infrequently try camera view on my RealFlight SIMs and find it disconcerting...

Not for me.

For me, its all i fly now, flying without is so last century, its like sitting (standing) in front or a very large TV screen, the view is that big that to look at the edges of the screen is about at  your max eye movement to the sides, the quality is second to none, more so in 1080, but im normally in 720 due to filming in 4k, i think its filming in 2k or less for them to work in 1080 mode, many give up on the goggles cause then cannot focus the view, this is because they do not realise yet that they actually need reading glasses. I am a +1 reading glasses so i bought the +2 focus inserts and they are amazing!!!!

Aloha Reds2tall,

Bashy has it right!  Using 1080p goggles is like flying with 20/20 vision inside the camera.  Once you got it down, you cannot go back.

I have three different goggles including DJI Goggles.  DJI Goggles and Eachine Goggles Two ($130 US) both have 1080p resolution for a 20/20 experience.  The Fat Shark goggles do not have high resolution but have almost no lag, so each type of goggle has its advantages.  You have to decide what you want to fly with.

     Hope this helps!

Aloha and Drone On!

Aloha Reds2tall,

One other thing, you have to have a transmitter providing a 1080p live view image.  Only the P4 Pro and above provide that.
