If you're within ~5m of the home point when you initiate a RTH, it will simply land straight down. If you're within around ~20m of the home point when you initiate RTH, it will fly straight to the homepoint WITHOUT rising to the preset atitude and than land. Outside 20m, it will rise to the preset altitude, fly home and then land.

I think this can be changed in the Go app settings? Smart RTH maybe?

How many satellites was your Mavic connected to before taking off?

To get some help on this, need to upload FlightLog file for Date & Time that your drone landed to far away (+15 feet) on RTH.

Its normal.  Mavic 2 lacks the precision landing on previous drones so is only as accurate as GPS positioning.  Depending on geometry this can be 3-5m on average.  So a 15ft "miss" is within that and its working nornally.  It wont improve unless DJI release an update with precision landing in.

How does the precision landing on older drone work?

Just after take off it takes an image of ground, it then uses this on return landing to get close to take off point.

And it works very well!

Good idea to turn off your sensors if you're a fan of using rth or find you're losing connects. If it flys into the sun the drone thinks it's a obstacle. I turn all that off when flying high.

Set your homepoint too manually, takes a second. If flying under trees or indoors, you want to set rth to hover. All stuff you'll learn. R&L is right though, using rth is an emergency thing if you can break the habit. I think maybe fly a atti drone like the syma explorer for awhile, get used to that and you'll learn a lot more than flying the mavics.

Thanks.Seems like an easy firmware fix.Curious that DJI didn't put it in at first.
