Taken a month ago. There were plenty more shots I wanted to get to add to it but weather and circumstances conspired against it, so this will have to do for this year.

Comments and criticism are welcome.

That's a BIG field!

I married a farm girl. I rather miss all those contraptions. Her dad was backing up the combine and I was motioning him. He didn't "woa" when I motioned "woa" and backed into the fence.  Melvin passed away in 14. Had great inlaws, but couldn't get along with their daughter.

"She was only the farmer's daughter, but she loved to get ploughed." (Sorry, flashback from my juvenile days.)

That field is one section, or 640 acres. Three combines had it cleaned it off in about 12 hours. All the machinery that was in the field--combines, tractors, baler, two semi-trailers, etc.--was worth about 5 million dollars. Each combine was $750,000 by itself, and the owner is thinking of upgrading them. You gotta think big to be a farmer these days.

I drove a few of those contraptions in my younger days and don't miss them. Too much noise, all day long.

That was really well done. You got some nice shots at  and some great closeups. I especially liked the shot in the beginning going backwards and watching the harvester scoop up the crops. That looked great. I also kept thinking be careful of all that dust but you seemed to maneuver pretty well to avoid most of it. One of the great qualities of a drone is being able to see that actual effort involved in farming. That was evident when the two harvesters were coming at each other.

In terms of getting bigger machines it makes sense as there are less and less farmers in the world, and the cost of their crops does not always go up in price. Well done.

Thank you for that, Sidd. I was happy with the shots I got, and I could write a small novel on what it took to get them, but there's so much potential for more. I went back a couple of evenings later but forest fire smoke in the air turned the golden hour into the brown hour, and I didn't even turn the Spark on.

You're absolutely right about the dust. Lentils are the dustiest crop to combine, but the worst dust problem came from convoys of big gravel trucks going past regularly that sent massive clouds of dust across the field. When I was set up closer to the road, I had to bring the Spark back a few times to wait it out for a few minutes.

Bit of a funny story...When I took the footage to the farmer at his home, he had a little smile on his face and invited me into his office. I thought he was going to show me an amazing harvest video that he had found. Instead, sitting in his office were two Phantoms, a 3 and a 4. He uses them to check on his crops and cattle, and for fun too, of course.

Thanks again, Sidd.
