Hello DJI community,

I noticed pretty signifcant stutter of video when played on my computer - video at 4K at 30fps is what I use; I use 64gb evo select [3] cards.

Curious enough, the 1080p playback on the DJI 4 app thru my phone is smooth.

I converted the h265 to h264 and the h264 does not have the stuttering issue.

The original video was longer so I truncated it after converting to h264 and converted it back to h265 where you can see stuttering.

The 1st link is the h265 and the 2nd is the h264 (the h265 on preview looks fine but when downloaded and played shows stuttering).

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ipxj32 ... ter%20H264.mp4?dl=0

Any thoughts?

I hope it's not due to the performance of my computer/windows media player [HP ENVY x360 i7] playing h265 (I guess you guys would be able to tell if both downloaded links play the same on your computers).

Thinking of going back to h264 as default but want to keep as much color info as I can.

Thanks in advance,
Sung

You need to install the h.265 codec on Windows, then the stuttering will be gone. Please consider changing the title of your thread. Video is stuttering on your PC but not on M2P.

Were you able to download the h.265 and play without stuttering?

h.256 player installed on Windows and the same result.

I've installed h.265 on my pc and I also have stutters in his video clips. I have en powerful labtop, so it's not lack of power.

I have just downloaded your sample h.265 video and it does not stutter.

That's odd. If I play it back it stutters. It's clearly visible when panning down the trees at the end. I'll try on another pc, but this laptop is a I7-7820HQ at 2.90GHz, a Nvidia Quadro M2200 and 64 GB of RAM. Should eat up H.265 just fine.

Thank you both for your input.

Codec h.265 is native to Windows 10 from what I understand and Windows Movie and TV and Media Player plays it but with a stutter on mine.  I purchased a codec as well from the microsoft store (not sure why I had to pay for it but...) and that did not help.  Downloaded three other H.265 players and they were on par to worse in terms of stutter as the ones on Windows.

I guess it comes down to hardware then.  My computer is i7-5500U CPU 2.4gHz and with 8.0GB of RAM.  I  unfortunately do not have any  higher spec computers so I'll try to download some h.265 videos and try to play them on the computer as a second test.

I wonder what player and computers specs are for Wachtberger!

Were you hoping to be able to record at H.265, edit then export at H.265 to watch yourself or share?

Also, can you try playback of the stuttering clips with VLC and see if it's any better?

The h265 clip runs perfectly smooth on my 2013 Macbook Pro (i7 with 8GB ram, iris pro graphics).
Strange...

Yes, I was planning on recording at H.265 edit via H.264 and then export at H.265 to watch.

Playback on VLC seems to be a bit worse than the other players.

1. Converting H.265 to H.264 (depending on settings) means you'll lose a ton of detail. Converting it back to H.265 doesn't get that detail back, you'll only get a smaller file size

2. Given that your PC doesn't playback H.265 - it's still quite a recent format, and lots of devices won't play it back properly - you should stick with H.264

I would like  have the option of keeping H.265 files as I would have more information for better edits when I get proper software to edit directly but in consideration of everything considering just sticking to H.264 until I get proper software to edit at H.265 like elements CC.  H.264 looks fantastic too to be honest.

The graphic drivers are updated.  I also changed power settings to optimize graphics and processing power but that didn't help much either.  As thetothernt mentioned, converting from H.265 to H.264 did cause loss of data (I lowered the bit rate) and whether I kept at H.264 or converted to H.265 didn't really matter at this point.  Because others were able to play the converted H.265 without stuttering, I think primarily a hardware issue for me.  I agree with El Diablo that it's not a good format for the average user, at least for today (thanks google translate).

I learned a lot from everyone here - many thanks!
