Hello friends,

I have an original Inspire 1 on FW 1.3.0.0. I was considering upgrading the camera to an X5 (likely) or X5R (less likely). The quetsion is, Do I need to upgrade the firmware or 1.3.0.0 is already ok with X5 cameras? I'd like to keep it that way if I can as everything works like a charm...

Hi, Thanks for the inquiry. The firmware would depend on the camera that you're using on your Inspire 1 drone. There will be a designated firmware for every camera that supports the Inspire 1 drone. Thank you for the support.

The point being my friend that the latest FW (from July 2017 BTW) works fine - no issues at all on my Inspire.

Ah ok got it now. Thanks. I'm pretty happy with 1.3.0.0 so I was hoping that there would be no need to upgrade (bird, two remotes, 4 batteries...) you know the pain :-)

I do indeed - one of the reasons I bought the Inspire 1 over the 2 was the fact there seems to be no more FW updates I'm considering getting the X5 next.

The I1 firmware v1.3.0 was released on 4 Aug 2015. When the X5 was first released in Oct 2015 by DJI together with Inspire 1 Pro, the firmware of aircraft was reported in DJI GO as version 1.4.0.

I am afraid that even if you can ever acquire one X5 with original firmware of Oct 2015, you will have to at least upgrade your I1 firmware to v1.4.0 (released on 7 Sep 2015) for it to work with such X5.

If you acquire an X5 with later versions of firmware, you will have to upgrade your I1 to such later version of I1 firmware corresponding to such firmware version the X5 has in it.

Uhm, that makes a lot of sense, thanks Henry.  What I don't understand is why Tony is pointing to PRO or RAW firmware.... Should I just stick with the Inspire 1 FW? After all the motors and ESCs are different, so are the FW version numbers by FW date?

The firmware of your aircraft should be the latest on the camera meaning the latest firmware would depend on the camera that you're using.

Thanks Tony, so I'll have to match whatever FW the camera comes in then. got it. Hopefully it will show FW vesion in DJI GO or I'll have to move up and test every step of the way...

Yes, That is correct! You can check the firmware version under "About" section and compare it to the latest firmware on our website. Please let us know if you have other concern. Cheers!

The I1 V1 can not support the X5 Cam.   I believe the hardware can't support the sotware/firmware required to run the X5.   This is the reason they came out with the I1 Pro/V2.

The Pro/V2 has different motors and ESCs to handle the extra weight.....as well as slightly upgraded electronics.

The V1 can support it if you upgrade the gimbal vibration board and stick on the landing gear risers however, the V2.0 also has the upgraded motors, ESC and props so it will handle the X5/R more efficiently.

upgrading to the latest FW will also slow down the top speed of the bird. they limited it after 1.6 or 1.7 i think

Thanks for the update. I’ve been following this to see how it went. Seems like several ideas on what can work on these birds. I’ve got a V2 that I keep thinking I’m going to try my x5 on but haven’t yet. I have that feeling that I might open Pandora’s box. Haha

You need the vibration board but you do not need the 3510H motors to fly the X5 on the V1.

I've been flying an I1 V1 with an X5 for a couple of years.

It does work but is slightly sluggish due to the extra weight. Also, expect lot's of  warnings from the app regarding power usage.

Does work though...

Not true FPS_Marsh, it is working great with original V1 motors. It goes up and down vertically at 6m/sec (modded FW), and looks stable. I also use carbon fiber propellers as going vertically at 6m/sec would be too much for plastic propeller attachments (I think). See here how that goes:

I've been flying an I1 V1 with an X5 for a couple of years.

Hi Altitude Drones, I did fly 5 batteries yesterday in cold weather (5deg C) and I didn't get any warnigs, even when I was going full out vertical at 6m/sec straight up. At the start of my last battery even before arming the motors I did get a warning for cold battery <15 deg C, the battery was at 12C. So I waited hovering till Temp=15C and then I dashed up vertically at 6m/sec. No warnings (like max output reached or max current etc...).  Is it possible that being on an ancient firmware like V1 1.3.0.0 it doesn't even check for these limits?  I Also replaced the props with carbon ones, not sure if that has any play in it? overall the weight of  the craft increased by 400gr (props + X5).  Flight time is reduced too maybe 12 minutes to 30% battery. I'll use the X5 for good quality photos and the X3 for fast operations (FW is modded..)

Reading and reading arrived here and decided to roll back to firmware 1.3 pro version, just did yesterday, both cameras worked, but the image of the x5 isn't good. So, I decided just to ask if with the 1.3 firmware you get sharp and good pictures/video.
Another thing, anyone knows in which firmware appears the distance on manual focus?

Not sure what the issue is ... Install the latest FW available, calibrate the lens on X5 camera and all should be OK. If not, there's something wrong with lens or camera ...

HI again, yesterday tryed calibrating with 1.3 and impossible to get a sharp image. So I installed the firmware 1.4 and again do a calibration and got a really good image.
This weekend make some pictures and test video and will be uploaded to know your opinion...
