Flying visual at about 200 mts out when suddenly phone packed up so no visual or stats - never happend before. Sods law says in wondering whats happened I lose sight of Sparky!  Flat panic.  Press RTH and Sparky whizzes back home.  I do so like my Spark and shall rememeber to check my phone battery as well as all the others!!

You just experienced, how well the failsafe RTH function works.
And that it is MOST important, to have a HP set, before flying too far away!
Also the RTH -function would have gotten you the bird back automatic, after about 20 seconds of you phone stopped working.

This technics is working. As long the GPS is "green" and the compass is not failing.

Of course, nothing wrong with checking on phones battery before leaving the house ;-)

I am always really careful to make sure I have HP recognized before flying anywhere.

Yep, do the necessarily pre flight checks and you will be all good

While the phone was not working, the controller would have continued control of the drone as long as it was in range. Assuming it was in visual sight, you still could have flown it home without the phone connection.

Hahaha the trusty RTH!! I had a similar one in low light, lost sight of the little beauty and panicked as it was behaving strangely and drifting away in the dark towards a busy road around 200M away and at 70M height..... Smashed the RTH and it suddenly appeared above us¬! SO happy to have my little friend back it was a great feeling!!!!!!!

Nice one, you stayed calm when you lost sight, I panicked the hell out of myself and didn't even get it back.

  I find even after lots of flying if something goes wrong  or is unexpected there is that sudden OMG whats happened!
